Gov. Schwarzenegger exits with some big successes
San Francisco Chronicle ^ | 12/28/10 | Carla Marinucci, Wyatt Buchanan, Chronicle Political Writers

As he bounded toward the stage to address Californians for the first time as governor-elect, Arnold Schwarzenegger seemed stunned at being catapulted from superstar to leader of the world's eighth-largest economy during the historic 2003 recall election.

"Only in America," he whispered to reporters before hitting the spotlight.

Only in California is more like it: Arnold Alois Schwarzenegger was still in a loincloth and killing bad guys with a sword as "Conan the Barbarian" in the early 1980s when Jerry Brown was finishing his second term as governor.

Only in California could such a political newcomer charge into the governor's office, put up a smoking tent in the notoriously nonsmoking Capitol, emblazon his name in gold in the hallways, eschew his salary, use his own Gulfstream to jet to events, set up residence in a hotel penthouse, and - on vacation - make news saving a drowning man on a beach in Hawaii.

Only in California, where political trends are born, could Schwarzenegger be swept into office in just six weeks by a populist wave fueled by economic trouble, voter anti-tax anger and incumbent disgust.

I voted for McClintock. Too bad he was “unelectable,” as asserted repeatedly on this forum, by those who should have known better than to elect a RINO.

Arnold sucks as do the other Liberal morons in office in CA.

Quote Of The Week

“Frankly, I don’t know what it is about California, but we seem to have a strange urge to elect really obnoxious women to high office. I’m not bragging, you understand, but no other state, including Maine, even comes close. When it comes to sending left-wing dingbats to Washington, we’re number one. There’s no getting around the fact that the last time anyone saw the likes of Barbara Boxer, Dianne Feinstein, Maxine Waters, and Nancy Pelosi, they were stirring a cauldron when the curtain went up on ‘Macbeth’. The four of them are like jackasses who happen to possess the gift of blab. You don’t know if you should condemn them for their stupidity or simply marvel at their ability to form words.”

smoke and mirrors.. nothing more..

when the state needed a leader, what did the elite install?

an action movie zero.. vetted by a Warren Buffett and a Rothschild..

He must have sent Carla and Wyatt each a box of cigars to chronicle his “successes”.

Schwarzenegger’s first move as governor was to try to enact spending caps by referendum. The people of California rejected them, and then Arnold veered left politically to get reelected. He’s no hero, but the primary responsibility for California’s problems lies with the voters.

The BLUNT truth is that behind the problems in most towns, cities, states and the nation as a whole, is a fatal overabundance of STUPID voters. A long time ago, a European whose name I can’t remember said “A people get the government they truly DESERVE.”
Ask a whiner if he/she voted FOR the current office holder or for the “loser”. Then ask what they are unhappy about. They got what they voted for.

McClintock failed every single time he tried to win a statewide office: State Controller, Governor & Lt. Governor.

That's not just saying someone's "unelectable" the guy proved himself "unelectable" statewide.

So very true here in CA. As pointed out, Arnold made an effort, the majority of voters gave him the finger and he moved Left for political survival. The voters' solution? Someone even further Left!

McClintock definitely had trouble when running for statewide office and it is not difficult to see why. The democrats he ran against had the support of their party apparatus and received the financial backing of their party.

McClintock, on the other hand, was always opposed by the California Republican Party and received little, to no financial support from his Party.

The California Republican Party eschews conservative principles and prefers candidates who, like Schwarzenegger, will oppose moral clarity, reject financial prudence, and accept atheist socialism as a legitimate partner in governance.

2. Why is this headline in the “news” section, not Opinion?

Schwarzenegger’s first move as governor was to try to enact spending caps by referendum. The people of California rejected them, and then Arnold veered left politically to get reelected.

Schwarzenegger’s first move as governor was to con the California citizens into allowing him to circumvent the Constitution and borrow $15 billion dollars to cover a $8 billion dollar deficit. Shortly thereafter, he pushed through the largest land grab in history, approving the Sierra Nevada Conservancy that even Gray Davis vetoed.

As to spending caps, he did propose something he called that in 2006 (the same year he pushed through the most state destructive law in the history of country, AB32, the Global Warming Solutions Act). Arnold's "spending cap" authorized more borrowing and would have increased spending.

As to veering left, he was far off the reservation before he even got elected. Prop 49, Government babysitting should have been a BIG giant clue for ya. Not to mention the crazy enviro-crazy crap he was proposing.

The man was and is a fraud.
