What to do about Russia's overwhelming advantage in tactical nuclear weapons was among several tough issues for the Obama administration that emerged from the Senate debate on the strategic nuclear arms reduction treaty. ....
Sen. Jim Risch (R-Idaho), who tried unsuccessfully to insert the tactical weapons issue into the START treaty preamble, said,"I hope and I urge that the president, the State Department and all the others involved will pursue this issue aggressively and quickly once we have this treaty behind us."
The Russians have some 3,800 tactical weapons, compared with less than 500 in the U.S. stockpile, Risch said.
"We are no longer going to look the other way and ignore this issue," he said. "They have an advantage on us on this issue. Everyone agrees with that." ....
Risch and other Republicans pointed out that as Russian troop levels have diminished, Moscow's military leaders have focused increasingly on tactical nuclear weapons.
"They continue cranking out ... new designs, new technology, new development and new production of these tactical weapons - continuing to add to the disparity," Risch said. "Some Russian military experts have written about use of very low-yield nuclear 'scalpels' to defeat NATO forces."
Sen. Jon Kyl (R-Ariz.), who led the treaty debate opposition, chimed in on the tactical issue, saying, "I can't imagine anyone denying the fact that as we reduce our strategic offensive weapons, then the number of tactical nuclear weapons becomes all the more important, especially because of the large difference between the Russians and everyone else in the world."

Doesnt’ matter. Obama got his “victory” so liberals can allay their fears that he is weak. Noting that the “vicotry” is actually more proof of his weakness is something irrelevant to NY Times believers. Seems the Wash Post crowd is a little concerned.
Maybe Team Obama needs to triple the amount of fawning Orwellian editorials saying that he is a foreign policy success.
And that’s just Russia. What about everyone who has or who is developing nuclear weapons to be aimed at us, and only us. This is why a treaty with Russia is MORONIC.
“And through his policy also he shall cause craft to prosper in his hand; and he shall magnify [himself] in his heart, and by peace shall destroy many: he shall also stand up against the Prince of princes; but he shall be broken without hand.”
Daniel 8:25

Quit being stupid, Jim.
They aren't on our side. Quit asking the Nazis to do something about the belligerent Germans.

So W and Cheney were in office for 8 yrs and had a GOP Congress for 6 and the Russians still outnumber us in tactical nukes 3800 to 500? How did that happen? Where were all these conservatives complaining about how outgunned we were back in 2003 or 2005?
And Sen Kyl is worried about the Russians using nukes to defeat NATO forces? He should take a gander at Afghanistan. The Taliban are doing just fine without nukes. If NATO can’t even finish off the Taliban after 10 years, we have a lot more to worry about than Russian tactical nukes.
Where were all these conservative when Bush41 and Cheney unilaterally got rid of most of our tactical nukes in 1991?
This is why anything that was done by 'our' side will never be touched, and why my silly experiment is the only response you should expect to receive from anyone here. Furthermore, push that line of questioning and you may receive lightning from above if you catch my drift. Sadly.
However, when you are going to take a Bear’s food (Saddam's oil) and need an appearance of cordial cooperation a whole lot of details are going to get over looked... GHWBush and then the Clintons bought into the notion of cutting up and parsing out the so called ‘peace’ dividend. Congress was so intimidated by their benefactors they hired for themselves a commission to figure out which ‘constituents’ to unilaterally offend.
Salient points, and thank you. (Oh, and apologies for the description. LOL.)
“They continue cranking out ... new designs, new technology, new development and new production of these tactical weapons - continuing to add to the disparity,” Risch said. “Some Russian military experts have written about use of very low-yield nuclear ‘scalpels’ to defeat NATO forces.”
What evidence is there of this? Are they still manufacturing new warheads and missiles, or maintaining older ones? I don’t doubt the superiority in numbers and I am concerned about the disparity, but lets keep to facts as we can establish them.
Yeah, the Destroyer in Chief is good about that aspect of his assignment.
. . . DESTROYING . . . rapidly, utterly, deliberately.
City seems to be working on the water. Been out since about 21:00 last night.
Dad has the well so he could switch it over for his part. Not so to our trailer.
Should probably be back on early today. This time.
INDEED.
Picking noses?
ABSOLUTELY INDEED.
These blokes have been playing all sides against the middle for at least 110-166 years.
