The Lone Star State is scooping up more than just our congressional seats -- some $846 million in personal income shifted from New York to Texas in an eight-year period during the last decade, according to an analysis of IRS tax returns.
Texas, which has no state or local income taxes and an enviably low cost of living, has been steadily poaching New Yorkers since the '90s, according to data from the Tax Foundation, a nonpartisan tax research organization based in Washington.
From 2000 to 2008, more than $846 million in personal income moved from New York to Texas -- with more than $212 million leaving in 2006 and '07.
New York lost an estimated $38.4 billion in personal income to other states in that same time period, while Texas gained roughly $12.2 billion from migration.
Texas was the big winner in the 2010 Census, which was announced last week. It picked up four House seats, more than any other state.
The fading Empire State came up short and lost two seats thanks to its sluggish population growth of 2.1 percent, compared with the national average of 9.7 percent.
"People aren't moving down to those Sunbelt states for the weather," said Kenneth Adams, president and CEO of the Business Council of New York State.
"It's three things: taxes, taxes and taxes."

Welcome the productive people- demand that they be productive though.
I am gettign out of NY even though I own the dream home I wanted since I was a child (seriously- it looks like a castle)
But I dont want to retire here and spend $500 a month in property taxes just to live in the home I ALREADY OWN
You hit the nail right on the head with that comment. In fact, it does not take 6 months. I love it when I hear this in North Florida: This was done better or we paid the teachers more where I came from, normally the North East. My comment is, well, why not just go back and why again did you more here in the first place?
Poor Texas, all those new laws are coming, you will not be able to wear boots before long, New yorkers don’t like them.
you need to welcome SOME productive people down there Johny
We can help you keep the libtards out
A good place to start would be to change your damn speed limit to about 70 are 75.

During the oil price bust of 1982 the saying was: “how do you call a Geologist?....... Answer: Hey waiter!”
It’s about the same now for Coders.
LOL
The 2010 Census revealed that a MAJORITY of people living in New Hampshire are from ‘somewhere else’. NH is being overrun by New Yorkers...mainly from the area of the city. Worse than M*ssholes...much worse.
What do you have against guys?
Obviously we don’t have state/local income taxes here. But property taxes and homeowners’ insurance are high here. I pay upwards of 6k and 2k a year, respectively.
Rush Limbaugh and Ann Coulter types are welcome. And fellow FReepers are always welcome.
Yes, miniature compared to northern deer.
You forgot to tell them about the roaches!!!!

And remember this too..... Never get out of the boat.
Rush Limbaugh and Ann Coulter types are welcome. And fellow FReepers are always welcome.
I know you said "types", but Limbaugh and Coulter already relocated to income-tax free Florida.
And don’t forget the giant hummingbird-size wasps that burrow into the dirt and stalk you as you walk from the house to the car/mailbox.
Its the same syndrome when immigrants come here to escape the hell hole they came from. And then, within a short time (after they start feeling “safe”), start trying to recreate it.
