In terms of being poetic, I agree that the KJV is amazing. In terms of accuracy and fidelity to the thoughts of the biblical writers, I think there are far better translations out there.

The KJV uses the textus receptus, the NIV uses the Nestle and others
verse by verse comparisons show that most other versions are lacking verses that the textus receptus contains
there is also the claim that other texts are older. maybe in physical age, but their old age does not prove their validity, only that the newer ones were the oens that were copied more often, hence, their newer age! :)

The language of this bible was a great influence upon the development of English as a literary tongue by playwrights and poets, out of its pidgin roots. It is not surprising that in retrospect it parallels the best of Shakespeare and other authors in his echelon.
