CARSON CITY Nevadas public employee retirement system will require increased contributions from the state and local governments next year to maintain the long-term financial health of the defined benefit plan, the board overseeing the program was told today.
The contribution rate for regular employees will have to increase by 2.25 percentage points to 23.75 percent in the coming two years. The retirement system covers 103,000 active public employees, including state workers, teachers and local government employees.

....every time I read a story like this I add more food/ammo/medical supplies to my deep larder...I don’t know exactly how or when it will happen....or what will be the triggering event...but I’m certain that eventually there’s gonna be a SHTF scenario in this country...followed by a time of barbarism.
There are 15+ million unemployed people who would be tickled with a job that pays anywhere near what these public retirees are being paid.
Yup. I’ve. Have been preppin since Nov 4 2008.
I have firearms, tools, but need to work on my water situation and long term food storage. I have the radios, shtf bags ready to go, etc, but always feel like I’m missing something.
“but Im certain that eventually theres gonna be a SHTF scenario in this country...followed by a time of barbarism.”
What could happen? The politicians have already eaten our brains.
It’s only money. Anyways, they have Harry Reid on their side.
My sister works for Clark County. More bad news for them.
thx I needed a chuckle.
Simple solution. The retirement payments can not exceed the maximum social security payout period. If that’s $2,000 a month, then that is all a retired government worker should get. They want more, then let them contribute to a 401k like the rest of us.
I have five food grade barrels. Putting my list of supplies together. Once supplied, I’ll use dry ice to take care of the O2 problem with long term storage. Got my weapons. Defense in place plans & bug out bag for me & family.
All these Gov’t pension obligations were never real same as the value of my house 5 years ago was not real. These pensions were promised but the promises will not be met because they cannot be met by the taxpayers. The pensions were a debt that was owed same as the US dollar is a debt based currency
This is what happens when a nation turns away from production and becomes an entertainment nation, a consumer nation, an indebted nation on all levels from consumer to corporation to governments
I have a maxpedition centurion bag in my truck stuffed with shtf gear like rope, medical kit. Siphon, matches, fire styarter, mask, and all sorts of stuff like crank radio, knives, and almost everything I can stuff in there
It has come in handy so many times you have no idea.
Is Nevada mostly public unions? I would run a politician who promises to make the unions pay for their retirement.
We need a central communications system, and it will not be the Internet or cellular or landline. It will need to be CB, ham radio or the like.
Do you ever listen to gerald celente? I am part of the group he always talks about that saved his hide in chile.
Check it out.

At some point in the not too distant future, all of the financial promises will be worthless as there is not enough money to pay the promised benefits. Better to bite the bullet now and have something rather than nothing.
That means that Nevada will end up paying a retired teacher more per month than the federal government pays a retired FBI agent.
Got that ready, too.
What a monumental waste of money to pay govt workers a pension of any sort. Truly insane, wasteful, and immoral to tax others to pay for this madoffian scheme.
I’ve put together some of the stuff you mentioned. Fits nicely in my truck. Got stuck in the Nevada county side, once.
Came in very handy.
