"Are there no poorhouses? Are the treadmills not operating?!"
Sounds like someone is planning to steal the Golden Goose.
“it is also one of the richest, with an annual tax base of approximately $334 million..”
That is the cruz of the matter. The state is looking to grab what it can of that tax revenue.

Whole lotta stocking stuffin’ going on there. Make them return the stolen greenbacks and replace with black coal—clean burning kind of course lest the ire of Ca. Grinchy enviromentalists be stirred.
The theft by the city's leadership is why the State is going after them.
Wow.
The town where I grew up many moons ago, population 1600 - about 16 times the size of the town mentioned in the article, had a mayor and 4 city councilmen. They were all $1 per year positions.
I ran for one of those council seats when I was 22 years old and got my butt kicked rather handily. My one and only stab at elective office.
Cutesy - each year they had a volunteer citizen hand out a $1 bill to each of the 5. (There was no lack of vounteers)
That'll raise a few eyebrows. Both corporate and government excessive greed is hurting the nation BIGTIME.
Sounds like it’s Christmas all year long for some people. But on the hand their high salaries do raise the average of all wages.
RIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIT!!! Turn Vernon over to LA. THAT’LL keep ‘em honest.
and while yer at it don’t fergit City of Bell also.
“H” turn ‘em ALL over to LA, and that really well run Mexican Mafia of Villergrowso’s.
The City of Vernon is a very special place in California: A city devoted entirely to business. Over 1800 businesses operate out of Vernon with an employment base of about 50,000.
City officials are more like corporate officers than municipal funtionaries. With a tax base of 330m, you can see that the arrangement is successful.
The CA state commies don’t like that. They want control of everything and all the money.
You can check out the City of Vernon at http://www.cityofvernon.org/
You better believe the Los Angeles scum want to get their filthy paws on that money!
More than 60 years ago, prior to the Baseball Major Leagues arriving from the east, there were ten Pacific Coast League (AAA) baseball teams on the west coast. Many would have been competitive with weaker major league teams between the world wars.
Vernon, with a population of only a few hundred, had one of those teams, sponsored by the city, competing with top flight clubs such as the Hollywood Stars, Los Angeles Angels (PCL) and the San Francisco Seals.
It was a prosperous little town during the first depression, as it is today. The fact that it marches to a different drummer than the rest of California works to its advantage....Name another city in the state that has actually attracted business?
If anything, the County of Los Angeles....or even the State of California should be turned over to the City Council of Vernon, which runs the business of the city like a BUSINESS!
“You better believe the Los Angeles scum want to get their filthy paws on that money!”
Just more Democraps, who know that a larger government is more honest, more easily approachable, and much more responsive to the needs of the citizens than a small government.
Wide spread bloated government corruption being exposed one town, city, county and state at a time..
Chicago politics in California. (The article says there's only three private residences in the "city".)
