You're quite right.
When Hitler summoned Roehm back from South America, der fuhrer warned Roehm to confine his homosexual activities to male professional prostitutes. For a while Roehm did this; but then he began to recruit and promote homosexuals to the top ranks of the SA.
Those men used the SA as a homosexual recruiting ground. Young men were lured into (or coerced into) relationships with seniors. Others were promoted solely for their sexual proclivities.
The situation became so scandalous that Hitler could not ignore it. Of course, other reasons existed for Hitler to strike at the SA, but the conduct of Roehm and his homosexual cohorts was the clincher for Hitler, who viewed Roehm’s conduct as a personal betrayal.
Oblivious to the danger of his conduct, Roehm gathered his cohorts for a meeting at a lakeside villa. Officially, this meeting was to discuss other issues, but in reality the meeting was designed to be a homosexual bacanal.
When Sepp Dietrich arrested Roehm, the man was in female drag.
