Americans want and need a gentle cash flow. There are no jobs and there will not be any in the near future. The military being almost the only employer provides that gentle flow of cash. Hence, there will be no appreciable effect upon enlistments or reenlistments. The days of principle are long past and very very few are motivated by principled beliefs.

Secondly, young people are optimistic and believe they can handle the nonsense which will result from the degeneration of our society and its institutions. In the long run they can't, but they still believe they can. This optimism will keep people in the military.

Thirdly, a particularily obnoxious sodomite will not leave the base as he would not return. In WWII my Dad had an NCO that was afraid to leave the base and would move heaven and earth to keep away from duty on a ship. He was such an ass that he would simply have never returned. In short, an obnoxious fag will simply die or end up missing.

Military is downsizing dramatically, it will not be consider a major employer by mid year 2010. I suspect thousands will be added to the unemployment roles from the military.
