Another Georgia Democratic has jumped ship.
State Rep. Mike Cheokas on Monday became the latest Democratic state lawmaker to switch his allegiance to the Republican Party. Cheokas, of Americus, is the ninth Democratic state lawmaker to switch sides since the Nov. 2 general election. Republicans now hold 114 seats in the 180-member House. Democrats control 63 seats, there is one independent and two seats are open.
The GOP needs 120 seats for a supermajority in the chamber.
Cheokas represents Sumter, Schley and Marion counties, as well as parts of Talbot County. He was first elected to the Georgia House in 2004.
Cheokas said he made the switch after "careful consultation with members of my community."
Sure, let these jerks switch parties. But place a large -D brand on their forehead.
Like Brad Pitt did to the nazis in the Inglorious Basterds movie.
That should be the price they must pay for their previous treason to the United States citizens.
These new converts need to watched closely as to how they vote. We need no more RINO’s.
Never trust a rat. Why would you?
They stab you in the back then lie to you and you just roll over and say okay?
Not me. Once a traitor always a traitor.
When you are liberating concentration camps, you don't accept applications to be Allied soldiers from Nazis.

G-D, that’s powerful!!!
Well said......
Don’t really consider Ronald Reagan, former Democrat activist, to be a Nazi.
Lots of Democrats see the light, and sometimes converts can be the most true and pure.
Sure, watch the votes of all those that switch allegiances, but remember that many of these Dixiecrats were never particularly liberal in the first place.
Different time, different place, different political party, different men.
John F. Kennedy could have become a Republican. Ted couldn't. Today's Democrat Party can't. Period.

Yes, and it seems many of the Southern Democrats that are switching are either small business owners themselves or are in districts with a good many small to medium businesses. I think they are leaving because they see how far left the rat party has swung in the last two years.
I don’t see them as Rhinos; I think they will prove to be good conservatives.
‘John F. Kennedy could have become a Republican. Ted couldn’t. Today’s Democrat Party can’t. Period’
So Zell Miller (D-GA) is a Nazi?
It may take a while to be certain, but IF all they’re doing by switching is trying to save their asses in an increasingly conservative state but continue to vote for more government, tell me what’s been gained?
Are these genuine battlefield conversions or simply more rank political opportunism for which progressives/socialists are famous?
Time will tell.
Can you read?
When did Zell start criticizing the Democrat Party? Was it in November?
Jeez. Learn to abstract, even the slightest.
If we lost Zell Miller, how much of a loss to conservatism would it be?
Are you a Democrat or something?

Mike Cheokas' hometown of Americus is only 10 miles from Plains, home of that bitter old bastard, Jimmah Cahtah. Sumter, Schley, Marion and Talbot counties are located in south Georgia -- the last bastion of conservative, white Democrats in the state. In the aftermath of November 2, that bastion has finally fallen, and we are now witnessing the death throes of the Democrat Party in the South. What remains of the Georgia Democrat Party will be comprised of urban socialists, Blacks, and the usual supporting cast of takers and whores.
Whether you recognize it or not, this is an event to be celebrated.
Jimmy Carter’s hometown legislative district goes GOP (probably for first time since Reconstruction).
Damn right - and their ignorance isn't just about Georgia politics, but every other Deep South state. I'd wager that 90% of these ex-Democrat party switchers are far more conservative than a typical Congressional Republican. RINOs they ain't.
As to "why were they Democrats all those years?", the knee-jerk crowd doesn't realize that until fairly recently you couldn't get elected to ANYTHING in Georgia (and SC, AL, MS, LA) unless you were a Democrat.
Republicans had no power whatsoever in these states for literally 100 years (or more) and the scales are finally being balanced, even tilting in our favor. Lots of conservative Democrats have already made the change and what very few conservatives remain in that party are finally seeing the light.
There's a big difference between Nancy Pelosi suddenly deciding to switch parties (no thanks) and a conservative state legislator in Georgia finally doing the right thing.
Not worth the risk. We need people in this rotting structure who can at least prove they haven't spent their previous lives tending termites.
The time to be saved was before the fires of Hell started licking your heels.
