Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell has a warning for Democrats seething over his shrewd political tactics: Get used to it. Theres much for them to be angst-ridden about, McConnell said with a chuckle. If they think its bad now, wait til next year.
Emboldened by Democrats decision to scrap an omnibus funding bill and extend the Bush-era tax cuts for two years, McConnell is ready to deploy his larger Republican minority next year, insisting that Democratic leaders will need to bend to his partys will particularly on spending issues. Indeed, McConnell is signaling that the White House should be prepared in the new Congress to support Republican policies not the other way around...
Whether his tough talk amounts to little more than political posturing remains to be seen. But McConnell may have a point backed by 46 Republicans next year, there will be times when McConnell, not Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.), will have a working majority on key issues if he can lure politically vulnerable Democrats to back some Republican proposals....
Democrats, peeved at what they see as McConnells relentless drive to bring the Senate to a standstill, say theyre not expecting much from the GOP leader in the next two years.
Hell do whatever is advantageous to him, Sen. Debbie Stabenow (D-Mich.) said....
To Democrats, McConnells comments confirm their suspicions: that his motivations are rooted first and foremost in politics on his desire to beat their party no matter the price. After McConnells comments last month that his top political goal was to make Obama a one-term president, frustrated Senate Democrats said in private meetings that their party needed to take a harder line against Republicans to counter the GOP leader...

We can only hope....and have McConnell’s and Boehner’s phone number programmed into our speed dials.
oooh, these Dems calims Republicans are e-v-i-l for being shwred and actually standing up for conservative positions.
Heck of a job, Mitch! Keep it up!
Not bad for a minority leader.
What is their left to defend? He has given the left the most productive lame-duck in decades.
Yeah, that Mitch McConnell is really got them scared now ... I wonder what he’ll agree with next ?
Start,
DADT,
Tax Deal,
oh my we won the Omnibus thing-wow,
we’re getting our freakin asses kicked all over Capital Hill - AFTER the DEMS got creamed in an election. Will there be anything left to argue about next year?
Exactly. They’d done a really lousy job with this lame duck session, frankly.
The latest was that damned federal food control bill, which apparently got a ton of Republican votes.
Maybe he's got enough left over to feed to the rest of the motley Pubbie coalition.
Send up a REPEAL of Obamakare every day. Make them vote on it and defend it in oral arguments before the nation.
” and actually standing up for conservative positions”?
Well for years the pubbies have negotiated and been the only ones to give. The libs aren’t used to pubbies actually being conservatives.
I’m not impressed right now with McConnell. The only thing I will cut him slack on is that he doesn’t have the numbers in the GOP to shut down the Rats and there are the predictable Scott Brown types who are out to destroy the country. I will wait till next year when he has extra votes and see what he does with them.
Does Mitch include surrender on DADT and START one of those shrewd moves?
I’m still waiting to be “wowed”.
we can do better than Mitch
.
Who was this written by—McConnell’s chief of staff?
McConnell strikes fear in the heart of....of.....no one.
The Democrats probably thank Allah every day for such an ineffectual opponent.
This is not the guy who will save the
Republic. He can’t even get the Pubs to not defect to every Dem initiative.
He even puts himself to sleep at his press conferences.
Prove me wrong about you Mitch, when you wake up from your stupor.
Tell the World what you’re gonna’ do, but show it first.
How is a lame-duck Senate accomplishing what a pre-election Senate failed to for so long?
If he really said what is quoted, it's a poor tactic. Stop boasting in advance of something that may never happen. Act tough; stop talking about it. Republicans are so wimpy, sadly.
Miotch is a gelding. It’s all talk before the cave.
Whooooo! I’ll bet those commies are really scared.
