CBS News and CBS Evening News anchor Katie Couric have begun preliminary talks about a new contract, Bloomberg News reports. Courics current deal with CBS ends next year.
Not surprisingly, it appears that any potential deal would result in lower pay for Couric, who signed a record-breaking $15 million a year in 2006.
That would be in line with what CBS CEO Les Mooves said in August of rich anchor conracts: Those days are over, because the news no longer generates the kind of revenue or success thats worth doing [those contracts].
Later that month he backtracked a bit, saying that they havent even begun to negotiate with Couric.
Of course, rumors of Couric leaving CBS News are nothing new, TVNewser has been reporting on them since 2008. But with her current deal coming to an end, and Bloomberg reporting that CNN is interested in her, it looks like some movement is actually beginning to happen.
Bloomberg also reports on some other things CBS could bring to the table:
CBS and Couric havent addressed specific terms yet, one of the people said. The anchors contract provides a window when she can entertain offers from companies other than CBS, one of the people said.
One option for Couric would be to produce and host a show that New York-based CBS could syndicate, the person said. The anchor intends to continue her 40-minute online chats with guests that have included former Vice President Al Gore and pop- star Justin Bieber, said one of the people.
Couric also expects to continue taking assignments for CBSs 60 Minutes, the person said.
one of her guests, say sarah palin, should ask katie when “enough is
enough,” to quote obama. they should ask katie if she ever asks
her agent not to negotiate such a large fee so that other people
at cbs might keep their jobs. the last time she got huge raise
at nbc, many of the little people, that she cares so much about, were being laid off. they should look up some of katie’s quotes about
ceos making too much money. i’m sure most of them don’t get money
and perks that she receives.
Katie Couric, CBS Begin the Talks that will Contract her Contract?
Anyone who’s a stockholder in National Amusements (CBS, Paramount, and MTV) can weigh in on this and call for her to be fired. If I held stock in that company, I would. She arguably costs the news division and by extension the entire network money every night she sits in the anchor chair.
Disney stockholders screaming their heads off were enormously influential in removing Michael Eisneer, for example.
Everyone has seen her colon already...
I’d say get lost you back-door wh@$3!!
What’s A25-54?
She should be bartending in a dive-bar in Sheboygan Wisconsin. Even that would be above her skill set.
