They have 6 kids, so it's gotta' be good with kids but bark a lot, and run around the yard like crazy.

Possible. Up North here, I didn't want to string that much fence. Was able to circuit my property without having to use a Repeater between spools of wire.
My dog learned quick. She'll still bark at folks wandering by, but she stops well short of the barrier no matter how fast she's moving initially...
