I do not get this. I think a nightstick would be a more appropriate way for a policeman to deal with an aggressive canine. Also nicely self-limiting as a weapon, since if the dog is close enough for you to use it, you’re pretty much, by definition, justified in doing so.

Have the cops all forgotten the possibility of using non-lethal force?

I agree with the nightstick comment. I don’t know how this dept handles training for these circumstances.

Non-lethal force is reserved from lefty protestors, non-whites and mooslimes only.
