Thanks, “mylife.” As I suspected, the reality is not as simple as the headlines. Looks like there’s already a bunch of labeling and food-cost problems caused by the 2002 Bioterrorism Act.
This bill was also bound up in the continuing resolution victory. So it is part of the deal that killed the 2,000 page porkulus.
It includes the “Tester-Hagan” Amendment, which “BigAg” seems opposed to, and in this case, the small (usually lefty) “organic growers” are actually on our side (anti-FDA bureaucracy.)

While we are still saddled with this atrocious lame-duck vindictive congress, I guess this is less worse than the alternative of getting the porkulus rammed through by buying off a pro-AgBiz midwest Dem.
There needs to be sunset provisions on all legislation going forward. We will be choked by compromises.
Thank you for your input.
Glad to see a balanced opinion from a trusted “mature” freeper.
Republicans didn't do this chit in 2006. They went home.
There needs to be sunset provisions on all legislation going forward and all previous laws. That way we keen only the laws that are really needed.
I’m beginning to think compromise simply means “screw you”. The lame duck congress and the president are making a concerted effort to destroy the country from the inside out and no one is stopping them. We are a country that values and honors the rule of laws and they are using our own laws against us. It will take years to undo the damage, unless something is done right away. I don’t think anyone even knows for sure what they passed.
The situation seems to be a lot less Kafkaesque than I thought. I am relieved to know what my friend and I do with our home grown produce isn't going to cost us a $500 annual registration fee under threat of up to ten years in prison.
Nah, the lefty growers have the big mouths. Most small ranchers, "organic" and otherwise, are conservative as are many farmers. And some start farming as lefties but learn to be conservative per force.
thanks
