Unless this article leaves out some relevant details, it seems like a good solution. I would love to have the hospital stay opened instead of being torn down for overpriced condos. The article implies that the mosque would be a small part of the building. Since St. Vincent’s was a Catholic hospital I assume they would let the chapel stay put and the Sisters of Charity continue to do their work there. I used to live about 4 blocks from St. Vincent’s and the mosque would not disrupt the community. Perhaps it would even serve as a symbol for reconciliation since the building would have an interfaith aspect to it.
Given that female American troops were forced to wear burkas so as not to “offend” the Saudis, I can’t see the Saudis keeping anything about the hospital Catholic - not the name St.Vincent’s and not the chapel and not the Sisters of Charity. The point of the purchase would be to have a big Muslim public presence will overshadow the presence of all other religions.
