From one of my sources higher up in state and national Democratic circles, the word is that Joe Sestak, who just barely lost against Pat Toomey in the US Senate race, will be challenging Bob Casey in 2012.
Sestak successfully knocked off Senator Arlen Spector in a primary challenge this past year, hitting him from the left. Presumably, since Casey is often billed as a conservative Democrat (but is really more of a moderate), Sestak will be doing the same thing in 2012. He likely thinks he can do it again.
Currently, Sestak is on a 67 county Thank You tour. In fact, hell be in Scranton at the AFSCME Union Hall at 3 PM this Saturday. This tells me he doesnt want people forgetting him. Theres nothing statewide he can really run for until this race anyway. 2014 for Governor and 2016 for a Toomey rematch. Evidently thats too long for Sestak to wait.

LOL, he’s a liberal!
There’s no penalty for knocking off a turncoat traitor like Specter. They use those guys up and throw them away.
Knocking off a sitting Democrat, son of a Democrat, would seem to be a different kettle of fish. I shouldn’t think the state party would be too happy about this.
He won’t have Christine O’Donnell to run against in ‘12.
The question is which of the two would it be easier for us to unseat, Sestak or Casey.
If the country’s mood is still conservative in 2012, then I’d think it would be easier to beat Sestak than Casey. Especially if they have a divisive primary.
Casey pretends to be socially conservative when he most certainly is not. But he seems to be good at getting away with it.
Probably Sestak. He’s not the son of a former governor (or however Casey is related)
Casey is a liberal who won on his fathers merits. The man is both ignorant and a liar.
“The question is which of the two would it be easier for us to unseat, Sestak or Casey.”
In my opinion, Casey would be the easier to beat. Sestak had enormous support from the left which caught alot of swing voters. In fact, he almost beat Toomey. Casey has been a do-nothing Senator & that will irritate people. His piss poor record would make him an easier target than Sestak. Just my opinion of course.
Don’t underestimate the Casey name in Pennsylvania.
Very true.
There. Fixed it.
Is Sestak pronounced Shestack?
Right you are!!! And the pro-Sonia Sotomayor Toomey. I’m having my doubts about Toomey. I’m cautiously optimistic. Key word: cautious.
Casey is often billed as a conservative Democrat but is really more of a embarrassment to this Pennsylvanian.
“...a different kettle of fish...”
Oh yes, assuming Casey remains popular in PA, Sestak would really be wasting his time.
I’m glad he defeated Spector, Spector was a rat-fink in many ways.
Casey is of course not the man his father was, but I don’t see how Sestak gets any traction against him. Esp. considering the results of this election, it doesn’t seem Pennsy will be clamoring for more liberal reps, although that might be a wrong assessment for the dem primaries.
Maybe he can shake a job offer out of Obama/Clinton if he threatens to challenge Casey?
Casey has been a loyal(LIBERAL) Democrat. If Sestak challenges him he will receive NO support from Democrats in PA. Having said that, I HOPE he does run from the left against Casey. The MONEY spent would be drained from the GENERAL election against a Republican.
