I am totally against homosexuals serving in the military and abortion, but I am also someone that believes that the best way to destroy bad ideas is by debate. FR is free to decide whomever it wants to post or to zot. On the other hand, I believe that FR is missing an opportunity to confront these issues.

I agree with you, Nosterrex. I’m TOTALLY opposed to the homosexualization of the military, and of our society. But shutting off debate on “Free Republic” — how does that help? I mean, it’s your absolute right to do so, Mr. Robinson — but shutting down debate does not a “free republic” make. And even though I DISAGREE with many Libertarians and libertarian-minded “conservatives” about homosexuality ( on just about every level possible — moral, political, social, cultural, artistic — you name it), debate still should take place among us. It’s gone on here on Free Republic in the past — I’d hate to see it be pushed to another forum now and in the future. Just my $.02 worth. No offense intended...

Seriously, what’s there to debate if not to antagonize or rationalize?

It would be like a crowd of gay people came to your church and protested and tried to disrupt your service. You are not going to change their minds, and will spend all your time and energy dealing with them and not get any of your work accomplished.

Some people just have nothing better to do all day then to try to stir up uh.. Shinola... And for some it's a tactic of deliberate disruption.

Jim is trying to prevent the Internet online forum equivalent of that from happening here.

To engage an opponent is to admit to his standing.

From a pragmatic perspective, outted homosexuals in the military is a non winner. Say two outted gays are in the same platoon together and they develop feelings for each other. All of a sudden, romantic feelings disrupt the chemistry of the platoon. You can easily prevent this situation from forming in the past with straights by gender segregation, but now, effectively, you cant do that anymore. A homosexual in the military is a morale and chemistry killer waiting to happen. Imho, homosexual baiting or hating is none of my conceern. We live in a republic and not a theocracy and cannot and should not legistlate nor promote a certain brand of sexuality. I personally find homosexuality not to be my particular cup of tea nor am I favorable or tolerant of 90% of the homosexual population because of their outright hatred for traditional, american values. open homosexuals in the military make the dedense of such a nation a difficult task, not counting the hatred for american society most of them have.
