Don't decline next time it's no problem, just make a traditional English Trifle with lots of booze in it. A guaranteed hit, and even I can make one...:^)
You do need the correct dish to show it off nicely...
some truth in this, I was asked to provide a traditional British dish for my companies pot luck. I declined and explained that there was a good reason I’d married an Italian lady.
