After liberals in the Democratic Caucus forced a several-hour delay on tax-cut legislation, the House approved the rules for debate on the legislation this evening and have now begun three hours of general debate. A final vote on the legislation is expected after midnight.
Yesterday, the Senate approved the $858 billion tax plan, by a vote of 81 to 19. The measure (HR 4853), negotiated by President Obama and Senate Republicans, would allow tax cuts for all income levels to continue for two years and extend unemployment insurance benefits for jobless Americans for 13 months.

I wonder why they changed the name?
Anyway, looks like it failed. Still not sure if I would rather have had it pass, just to mess around with the Senate.
Levin Amendment fails, already 230 no votes with 25 more to vote.
"All 42 Senate Republicans signed a letter to Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nevada, vowing to prevent a vote on "any legislative item until the Senate has acted to fund the government and we have prevented the tax increase that is currently awaiting all American taxpayers.""

The omnibus bill failed in the Senate that would have funded the government for the rest of the year. I hope this is enough for them to stall to the very end.
The Levin Amendment failed.
Yep, death tax increase amendment fails. Now they vote on the overall thing (I think). This should be it.
Is anyone listening to some of these people calling in ? It’s amazing how gullible and just plain stupid some of these people are. The last stupid women said the ‘this tax cut they give to the rich will be paid for by the middle class and hard working people.”
First it’s not a cut, they will continue to pay what they have been paying and second if the tax rates increases the business owners, professional like dentists and anyone runs a business will have to increase the cost of their products and services. The very wealthy will just shelter more income.
How can people be so stupid to not understand that if you raise taxes on businesses and professionals, there costs of doing business stay the same, but now they will have less money because of the increased tax. So they will need to raise their prices. So everyone pays more ?
Oh yeah, if God could take a few minutes out of the really big stuff, he could do us all a favor by sending a pile of these people to the very deep south, to party with Teddy K.
Too bad. If the mendment passed there would have to be a conference between House and Senate to sort out the differences. That probably would have run out the clock on the 111th Congress of Idiots. Or, I may have it completely wrong!
Looks like the Obama compromise passed. Good thing is, our taxes won’t go up. Bad thing is we’ll have to hear Obama yapping about “bipartisan compromise” yadda yadda “hostage takers” yadda yadda “tax cuts for the rich” yadda yadda.
Bill will pass with 275 votes.
What bill was this?
Big E, it’s frightening, and to think how many uninformed people are voting... I answered my own earlier question, how do some of these morons get elected? The nation is drowning in a tidal wave of ignorance and apathy...
On this crucial vote, how many American are watching C-span, how many are watching Thursday Night Football?
I agree Amrica is probably finished at this point, these kids that are being born these days, what a f*cking mess they are going to inherit.
Elevator going down to Hell....all aboard!
I’m volunteering to drive the bus of the political damned to the RED DOOR of Hell, and I’ll even run the elevator down to where it’s hot, I hear.
You got it right. It would have ran the stall clock. The Repubs had a chance to do it, but that appears to be too much organization to expect from them.
Only C-Span screens their callers to find the dumb ones to let them on the air...
Okay, you can drive, but I’m the one who gets to throw The Rapist & The PIAPS off first !
It’s a deal!
