President Obama on Wednesday urged lawmakers to reach a compromise on tax extenders but a glitch in the bill caused some senators to scramble for a correction without endangering its outcome.
Sen. Mary Landrieu, D-La., came to the Senate floor Wednesday to announce a "mistake" in the legislation. She said a program to extend low income housing tax credits for people who lost homes during Hurricanes Katrina and Rita was left out of the bill even though it was a deal that all sides approved.
Landrieu said the money is needed for 2 more years to complete the projects and its inclusion was blessed by the White House and the entire Louisiana delegation of nine lawmakers, two Democrats and seven Republicans. Finance Committee Chairman Max Baucus, D-Mont., followed to say that she was right.
But the addition could open up a can of worms because Republicans have said they would not accept any changes to the deal with President Obama that House Democrats have already indicated they want to rip up.

My bet is it is like the Earned Income Tax Credit - totally refundable, even if you never pay a dime of tax.
Tear the whole damn tax bill up
a small temporary loss but much larger gains starting in January.
NO NO NO on this tax bill
There is no more money.
Another means to redistribute wealth.

How the heck long are we going to be paying for those folks housing? tar and feathers folks
Don’t believe it was a “mistake”. This was cleverly crafted to obtain maximum chaos.
You can bet every congressman/senator had a staff member scouring the bill to make sure their pork is in it.
Lot's of minority "victims" during a Republican presidency... The Perfect Storm.
And seven Repubs went along... I tell ya, they're all part of the same country club...
SO the mistake was that they left off more pork? It would be rich if that was enough to derail it but unfortunately it won’t be.
the money is needed for so long as the Republic lasts. The heirs of the recipients cannot in good conscience be turned out of their homes, nor can their heirs. The poor we shall always have with us and the Government will guarantee their status.
Ok so with this problem, can we run the clock out so the dream act isn’t voted upon? Is that realistic?
What will it take to stop these piggies? Oh I know the answer all right...........
LOL! It's not yet at the "Unreadable" level of porkiness, so therefore it doesn't "size up" to congressional standards.... but they will do their damndest to get it there.
Good Lord...how many decades are we going to be paying for Katrina? I still want to know what happened to all those gazillions of dollars that were DONATED willingly to the relief effort. Each person in NOLA should have a nice replacement house and a car with that cash that flowed in immediately after the storm.
Pack the whole bunch of them up right now and ship them to Hawaii for Christmas . . . on the Titanic.
Every time there is an NFL game from N'Orleans I want to scream. Usually takes about five minutes until the start the "Can a city come back, blah, blah, blah?" routine. ESPN is the worst, NBC not far behind.
Meanwhile Mississippi has recovered without a whimper by the media.
Absolutely
