Pentagon Station Shut For Suspicious Ornament?

WASHINGTON -- Authorities shut down the subway station at the Pentagon and diverted hundreds of passengers early Wednesday while investigating a suspicious package that may have been a blinking Christmas ornament.

Trains on the Washington area Metro system were forced to bypass the huge Defense Department headquarters after a package was discovered in the station just before 7:30 a.m., said Lt. Col. Robert Ditchey, a Pentagon spokesman.

The federal authorities were probably on high alert because something related to Christmas was close to one of their buildings.
