(LEAD) N. Korea skips mention of Russia's criticism on artillery attack

SEOUL, Dec. 14 (Yonhap) -- Reporting on the foreign ministers' talks between Pyongyang and Moscow, North Korean media on Tuesday evaded a mention of the Russian side's criticism of the North's artillery attack on the South last month.

In talks on Monday with his visiting North Korean counterpart, Pak Ui-chun, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said that the attack "deserves condemnation" and expressed deep concern over mounting tensions on the Korean Peninsula, according to Moscow's foreign ministry.

Russia has taken a critical stance toward the North's shelling of the South Korean border island of Yeonpyeong in the Yellow Sea on Nov. 23, which killed two civilians and two marines.

But the North's Korean Central News Agency, reporting on the talks in Moscow, made no mention of the Russian criticism and instead said Moscow showed its "deep apprehension" of Pyongyang's position. North Korea claims its shelling was in counteraction to the South's provocation.

"The Russian side gave a profound understanding of the DPRK's stand toward the grave situation recently prevailed on the Korean Peninsula and expressed deep apprehension over the facts that the Yonphyong (Yeonpyeong) Island incident occurred due to South Korea's provocation and the U.S.," the report said. DPRK is short for the North's official name, the Democratic People's Republic of Korea.

Concerning Pyongyang's revelations last month that it has a facility to enrich uranium in the country's main nuclear complex in Yongbyon, the North Korean report also portrayed Russia's position as being sympathetic to the North.

"The Russian side took notice of the DPRK's stand that nuclear activity for peaceful purposes is the independent right of each country," the report said. "Both sides agreed to make joint efforts to defend peace and stability of the Korean Peninsula through bilateral and multilateral talks, including the six-party talks," it added.

The Russian ministry, meanwhile, had said Lavrov expressed "deep concern" over the information about Pyongyang's uranium enrichment facility during the meeting with Pak.

The uranium program gives the North a second means of making nuclear weapons in addition to its existing program based on plutonium.

Russian troops are at the border to prevent a mass refugee exodus from NK. The Russians have their ears plugged, they are OK with regime change too as long as they don't get their hands dirty and have to pay for refugees.

Any one else confirm the SK civil defense drill scheduled for tomorrow? You going to the shelters Tiger?

NK using nukes is a pure bluff as it is a one shot deal that ends the regime.

I think the possibility of more NK attacks is high, the only variable anymore is the tolerance of the SK military and government.

You going to the shelters Tiger?

Probably. In many cases, underground parking lot doubles as a shelter.
