Got news for you. Military officers do not have quite the luxury of picking and choosing which orders to follow. If they fail to obey on grounds that an order is unlawful, then they’d best be lawyered up and if found in the wrong, they’ll have plenty of time to think about it.

Lakin was making a political protest based on conspiracy theory. Not a wise move.

We may not like it, bur Obama IS the President of the United States and the Commander-in-chief. And the war is authorized by the United States Congress. Do not ask our military officers to get caught up in political conspiracy theory.

I am very, very angry with the United States military right now. That is what I am saying. I would never spit on anybody, least of all the people who are valiantly doing their jobs to defend this nation and the Constitution.

I feel toward the military leadership right now about what I felt when I found out that Nidal Hasan had been promoted in spite of all the warning signs and that the political correctness crap had cost the innocent lives of some of our finest.

I love the people who are serving honorably. They deserve better than this crap. Including Lt Col Terrance Lakin.

I would support this move.

I understood what BDZ said and the context it came from. I know from my own perspective I am pretty emotionally upset at this development, and I am certain she is as well. We all say things in the heat of the moment which, had we not been so emotionally tied to the results, we would have chosen to phrase differently or made more clear.

I believe that Butterdezillion’s comments are too easily taken out of context, and that contextual error would lead one who does not know her better to a conclusion which is at the very least inaccurate.

From all I know of her, BDZ is one of the blokes in the white hats.

Thats my 2 cents for what it’s worth.

In zillion's defense, I think this has just gotten overly emotional. I see this from time to time when people are confronted by the law not saying what they believe is common sense. There's not even anyone to protest to because they're up against abstract logic. People feel an innate need to personalize their sense of outrage. That inevitably leads to focusing on the wrong target, and they say things they really don't mean.

I would just say to butter that it's not the military unfairly trying to wreck Lakin. I know you believe strongly that your suspicions of Obama’s legitimacy should mean Lakin’s orders were not lawful. But that's not what the law says. And it's not Lind. Any military judge would have made the exact same ruling, as all the people with experience here said. And Puckett is not trying to sell out Lakin. He's trying to do what he can for Lakin by conceding the charge that is hopeless to fight while litigating the one that has a technicality to pick at. That's his job.

I've cautioned you before to be careful about the personal investment you make in issues you can't control and for which you may not have the complete understanding you presume. That is a guaranteed recipe for self agitation.

It's okay if you don't like what is happening to Lakin. You are entitled to that opinion. But for your own sake, try to appreciate that it is simply one man's misfortune. He chose the wrong vehicle to try and pursue this issue. However sad it may seem, it is not the end of the world.

Lakin screwed up big time and is now going to pay the consequences.

The military is not the place for POLITICAL PROTESTS!! PERIOD!!

Lind won’t let him even bring up the Constitutional grounds. Lakin’s appeal would have to be over the breach of his due process and Sixth Amendment rights.

Just like I don’t sell my kids to the zoo, even though I sometimes feel like it.

I must say...that is by far the funniest thing I have ever seen you say...that was hysterical.

Deserter?

You’re an absolute idiot!

Lt. Col. Lakin may have or have not done many things.

None of them resemble desertion in any way.

Somebody had to deploy to Afghanistan in his place.

That’s awesome, and I hope they do well! They are now part of a great tradition in our nation. I served in the USMC too.

At any rate, the anger should never be directed at the military. Some of the troops are the best people in the world I have ever met that do not have selfish bone in their body. To direct anger at them is crazy. They are probably the last people you want ever want to be mad at. The main problem is the leadership in Washington DC.

No disrespect meant to him but he was fighting a losing battle in the wrong way. Any good lawyer might have told him to report then file suit. It is doubtful that any criminal charges resulting from him following the President’s orders of a man later found not legally the President would ever be filed. It wasn’t like he was being asked to exterminate the Jews.

My dad was a very intense guy. Lotta raw words. But I never had any doubts about how much he loved me. You can’t get angry over something you don’t care about.

“Yeah. I am just grasping at straws.”

YES, you are. Why?

It makes me sick to my stomach knowing that LTC Lakin is going to be punished for doing the right thing.

“...doing the right thing?

Lakin just pled guilty to committing a crime. What “right thing” are you talking about?

I was hoping that there would be some positive resolution out of his case.

We all were. It is shame that Lakin gave up.
