On a lighter note regarding the movie, does anyone think Melinda Dillon (Ralphie’s mom) was miscast? I thought she was dull and didn’t have chemistry with Darren McGavin. And her 1980’s frizzy perm was WRONG for a 1940’s housewife. She just didn’t look right for the part.

I thought she was great. What I thought was interesting is that that’s pretty much how kids see their parents: older and “frizzier” and..chaste?...than they really are.

I agree with that. She did seem out of place in that movie and her hairstyle was more early 1970s than 1950. Too much Barbara Streisand and not enough Donna Reed.
