I would rather wait a couple of years before we can do something very dedcisively!
The last time the US invaded Mexico was in 1845. After securing the annexation of Texas, the US Army left. I’d say let them kill each other - its not worth risking the life of a single American soldier.
Why don’t we try, really try, sealing the border. We could also work to destroy the drug crops in Mexico and other countries that provide the source of their business. Then, we might consider going into Mexico.
Yeah...just seal the border.
Concur.. put that wall up with box seats, grab some pop corn and enjoy the show.
We need a wall today, not an invasion.
A boy from the heart of Missouri.
You’re not counting Black Jack Pershing’s expedition (or even the Mexican War?)
Yeah until there’s another Black Hawk Down incident and then our military would get pulled out faster than you could say “Pancho Villa!”
If we invade it must be with the clear goal of KILLING, NOT ARRESTING, every son of a bitch that has any connection to the drug cartels and then turning the whole shebang into a State
The bigger problem is that Mexico is colonizing us and we are just standing around, holding our d!cks, and letting them do it. In 20 years, if not sooner, the types of mass murders and beheadings you see in Northern Mexico will be commonplace in border states. You have to do more than seal the border, you have to deport actively and create a 10 mile buffer zone. But we won’t have the backbone to do it until things get really, really bad.
When Carranza finally came to power he ordered the military to stop the advance of the Americans, and force them north, out of the country.
There was American blood spilled at Parral along with a few other small skirmishes.
It was the last hurrah for the horse mounted US Cavalry.
I thought NAFTA was going to fix that? They would be prosperous, blah, blah, blah.... Mexico is a failed state no doubt about that, and I’m sorry folks NAFTA has not done anything for them or us.
I with you. Let's seal this border air-tight. Militarized, with concertina fencing on the near side, an open space of 100 yards to the next fence of concertina. Guard posts within line of sight of the next, Troops dispersed along the border in platoon, perhaps company sized units with air and armor support within close proximity. In fact, a new Command should be created, perhaps name it the “Southern Border Command”? It could be located at Fort Bliss which already has the infrastructure to support it. Don't know if would be necessary to rescind the Posse Comitatus Act, not a legal expert, but if necessary to give our troops the right and authorization to fire on those who threaten our border, property, life, etc, then it should be done.
Then, if this doesn't work, we should consider taking aggressive action across the border with sweeps to take on the drug cartels. But, no, we don't want any part of Mexico, as a state, protectorate, or anything else. Not worth the trouble - no upside...
I don’t get how people here who are otherwise skeptical of the left-wing slant of mainstream media accept w/o scrutiny any negative news about Mexico. The source of the map on Redstate’s blog is the BBC. Since when do we critically accept the BBC as the source of truth?
If we were to legalize drugs that problem would go away over night
And yet El Paso is one of America’s safest mid-size cities: http://reason.com/archives/2009/07/06/the-el-paso-miracle
How many Americans killed in Mexico were involved in either buying or selling drugs?
