Officials could speak on link to border shootings

Associated Press - December 14, 2010 4:14 AM ET

CHICAGO (AP) - Authorities are expected to say more about whether an armed man killed by a customer during a weekend robbery attempt at a suburban Chicago tanning salon is the same man who terrorized the Illinois-Indiana border two months ago in apparently random shootings.

The Will County sheriff’s office says it would likely comment further on the matter Tuesday but didn’t offer details.

The suburb where the attempted robbery occurred, Orland Park, is northwest of the border area where an unknown gunman struck. The October attacks drew national attention after the gunman asked one victim about honeybees.

On Saturday, customer Jason McDaniel walked into an L.A. Tan during the robbery and managed to grab a handgun from the robber. McDaniel then fatally shot the man twice. Salon managers call McDaniel a hero.

Jason McDaniel killed L.A. Tan gunman Gary Amaya (right). (CBS)

"While sheriff’s police aren’t saying anything officially yet, sources tell CBS 2 the gun that Gary Amaya, 48, used this weekend in a robbery of an Orland Park tanning parlor was the same weapon used in the “honeybee” shootings in October.

He also physically resembles the sketch of the killer that was released by police.

The “Honeybee Killer” shot at three construction workers near Beecher, Ill. killing one of them, and later shot and wounded a farmer in Lowell, Ind.

The Chicago Tribune also reports that a purse found in Amaya’s truck belonged to a missing Chicago prostitute." Chicago CBS

Of course they would have been killed. I believed he was a serial killer like Berkowitz, etc. and would show up again a month or two later... since there was no clear motives in the shootings... it had the local police and citizens very freaked out, even closing schools in Lowell, Indiana for no common sense or tactical reason other than to feel good.

However concerning over the border in the repressive state of IL, to be a hero you have to overcome armed perps with your bare hands. This is what’s considered “fair” by these lib fools. The odds are never in your favor according to the ruling elite crowd in Illinois.

What if there is a public shooting spree by an assailant? Do one who dares to be Constitutionally armed take action with a real risk of losing his/her freedom in the aftermath? Do not the citizens of that state bear the burden of innocent deaths because of their desired gun laws?

Tactically it’s a last resort, but my freedom is paramount, even if it means grabbing cell phones prior to doing a disappearing act.
