The other suicides were of clear-cut accomplices who were looking at jail time. Undoubtedly, the younger Madoff was among the many who knew and didn’t want to know. It stated he did not work in the part of the company that was involved in the scheme. It is a tragedy that Bernie Madoff had made his reputation quite legitimately before he ever started this ponzi scheme. I still don’t understand how otherwise intelligent people can do this, knowing that pyramids must always collapse eventually.

Anyone remember Martin Frankel in the 90’s?

Eventually can sometimes seem like a long time.

I figured that Bernie intended for his scam to last until his death. At that point his family would be wealthy and protected (Bernie would rig it so that he posthumously took all of the blame) and he would go to his grave having lived every day as a billionaire hero.

The 2008 financial collapse exposed the scam about 10 to 15 years too soon. That's all.
