Mehlman: Time for GOP to support gay marriage
CNN Ticker ^ | December 10, 2010 | Alexander Mooney

Posted on 12/10/2010 2:50:12 PM PST by Hawk720

Ken Mehlman, the former Republican National Committee Chairman who last summer announced he was gay, says it's time the GOP publicly support same-sex marriage.

Mehlman's new position – once all but unthinkable from the man who ran former President George Bush's 2004 reelection bid – comes more than three months after he shocked many in Washington with his announcement.

But in an interview with the website The Big Think, Mehlman says he has come to believe that supporting gay rights is a logical extension of the principles the GOP seeks to advance.

"I do hope the Republican Party in the future, will look in the mirror and leaders in the party will think about where we stand and say, 'You know what? The party of Lincoln ought to be about letting adults who love each other to be married.' And the party of Lincoln ought to be about giving people more personal freedom," Mehlman told the website, in remarks published Friday.

No, and anyone that supports that is sick.

Why not make marriage totally meaningless and define it out of existence?”

That, my friend, is the point. Polyamory is next.

Support same-sex marriage but have an absolute ban on same-sex divorce.

What’s wrong Ken, getting a little lonely as a “gay conservative”?

He sounds like he's ready to jump in the hot tub with David Brock, Charlie Crist, Mark Kirk, Barack Ubama, and Pinch Sulzburger.

Same sex attraction is a behavior disorder, not an identity.

So, no, he doesn’t get to rewrite reality. However, we do wish him well in therapy.

Mr. Mehlman, as soon as you can explain how two people of the same sex can join together as husband and wife (which is what a marriage is), I’ll go along with you. Until then, you have no argument.

The problem with that is the legal precedent runs the other way. One of the obligations of the federal government is to defend marriage.

Fr’instance, if marriage wasn’t defined by the state, marriage couldn’t be used in the tax laws, couldn’t be used wrt to immigration. States wouldn’t recognise each others marriages.

This is why the ruling is that the federal government has an obligation to defend marriage between one man and one woman, “Christian marriage” as defined by the common law.

Then you get into the whole question of marriage registration and bigamy. If it were left to the churches there would be nothing preventing people from marrying under false pretences. How is a church supposed to access marriage records without the cooperation of the state?

It's articles like this that remind us that we don't need any hyphenated Republicans. We don't need no log cabin types. They have an agenda to steer things in favor of the homosexual agenda. If they did not, there would be no reason to identify themselves as some kind of coalition.

The homosexual agenda is in of itself contrary with Conservatism. Sure, homosexual individuals might well have many ideas in common with Conservaitves and “that's nice.” However, that can be said of almost any group of individuals.

AS I've said of this wacky “Big Tent” philosophy, “Make the tent big enough, the next thing you know, you got a regular circus.”

Of course, loving the sinner means refusing to endorse his sin.

Gays seem to believe that if they label disapproval of their lifestyle as “hate” and fear (”homophobia”), they can suppress any disapproval of the lifestyle or disgust at the behavior.

The gay agenda is to “norm” the lifestyle and expand their access to children and the societal benefits afforded married couples.

The statistical occurrence of homosexuality is about 3%. The gay community would like us to believe the number is 10%.

The only way the number moves from 3% to 10% is via coercion and molestation.

Does anybody want to debate the percentage of gays who were molested as children?

He could not be more wrong. Mehlman is mentally ill.
