Former Gov. Mike Huckabee (R-AR), a 2008 presidential candidate and possible candidate again for 2012, is currently having a multi-million dollars mansion built in his new primary residence state of Florida:
The Arkansas Times reports:
Former Gov. Mike Huckabee is building a $3 million house on Blue Mountain Beach just east of Destin, Fla. He bought the lot on the famous sugar sand beach last year for $800,000 and this year took out a building permit for a house expected to cost $2.2 million. The three-story house will have 8,224 square feet of living space and 2,969 square feet of decks and porch. A pool or spa is also in the works.
Walton County tax records show Huckabee has a $2.8 [million] mortgage with Centennial Bank after paying off $250,000 of the land purchase. This is in addition to a $375,000 mortgage outstanding on his vacation home in North Little Rock's Shady Valley.

I am always amazed at the class envy on this site. People say they support freedom of choice but then there is a disconnect when it comes to celebrities, those with money, bankers, landlords, et al.
The comments on other threads about British royalty - especially Camilla and Kate Middleton and how they should conduct their lives - are amazing. Why would anyone care? Maybe their lives are so barren they vicariously through celebrities.
Those multimillion dollar mansions sitting there empty may well not be worth what you imagine. It could cost as much as a new house does to fix them.
Cold hard fact of life is that a house at the shore has an ongoing cost base that far exceeds the mortgage.
I'd be interested in seeing what Mitt's PAC raised lately. My guess is that it would stack up comparably to his book sales versus Sarah's. I'd be surprised if his PAC even pulled even with Huck's PAC in $$ raised.
Neither amounts to squat compared to Sarah.
Since you are an expert on these things, why don't you look it up and tell us all?
"I would contend that Mitt raised most of his money back in 2008 when he was seen as the only viable alternative to, first, Rudi and then McCain.

Bishop, and Stake president, Mitt Romney has held higher church office than Mike Huckabee, and he has literally cult followers from his religion, and he has raised more money from his "people" which consist mostly of establishment, GOP big donors, and Mormons, Huckabee is not even in the running, Romney's PACs dwarfs Huckabee, and Palin combined. Palin does easily lead in the number of under $200.00 donors though.

I spent 15 years living literally under that salt spray 70 feet from the water in San Diego, at night you could see the spray falling on your cars and home (in my case a 110 year old shack).
For the none rich beach dwellers, alley picking became normal because of the fast turnover of people moving in and out. One soon learned that everything (brass lamps, toaster ovens, BBQs, metal fans, tools, metal shelves), looks used, rusted and old after 2 months anyway, and that you will not be taking most of what you own with you, when you move away from the beach, so we just pass it on by putting it in the alleys.
When I have seen “Two and a Half Men” I can’t help but think of what it takes to maintain that place, that patio door would look like heck, the piano would need lots of attention, the salt and moisture destroys electronics etc.

He's into hinges too!
The closer to the shore you get the worse it is. Nails and nailing plates in those houses might well be a problem!
Interesting source. It doesn’t look like Huck is raising squat. Which makes me wonder even more why he is building this type of mansion . . .
Absolutely.
My first car was a 18 year old BMW that had spent it’s first 3 or 4 years in a beach town.
Bondo and I became good friends.
The secret must be hidden in here somewhere, four years ago he was worth close to $700,000 with a lot of books under his belt, since then he has written at least one bestseller, and he has TV and radio gigs.
“Since the campaign Huckabee has published, Do The Right Thing: Inside the Movement That’s Bringing Common Sense Back to America (released on November 18, 2008) which became a New York Times Best Seller and “A Simple Christmas” (November 3, 2009), a non-political book which he took on tour around the same time Sarah Palin released “Going Rogue”.
On June 12, 2008 Fox News announced it was hiring Huckabee as a political commentator and regular contributor to their 2008 American presidential election coverage, in their New York election headquarters.
Now, Huckabee hosts a weekend show, Huckabee, on Fox News. The show premiered Saturday September 27, 2008, at 8 PM EST.
Huckabee filled in for Paul Harvey in July 2008. A few months later, he signed a deal with ABC Radio Networks to carry a daily commentary, The Huckabee Report, beginning in January 2009. After Harvey’s death his show replaced Harvey’s broadcasts.
Former Tennessee Republican Party Chairman and Huckabee’s former campaign manager Chip Saltsman has called governor Huckabee, “The most successful failed presidential candidate in the history of our country.”
In July 2010, Fox began testing a daily talk show, The Huckabee Show, for a six-week run on a few of its owned and operated television stations. The show is said to be slightly less political and lighter fare than his other media exploits. The show will feature numerous guest co-hosts, with Bob Barker rumored to have agreed to be a semi-regular in that position.”
“Let the man spend every damn dime he owns for that home. It’s a GOOD thing, no skin off OUR backs.....and none of our business, to boot.”
WELL SAID!
