Stop worrying about when the hard drive in your computer will die. Google wants to kill it permanently anyway.
The new Google Chrome operating system, which was unveiled Tuesday, as well as hints and suggestions from Apple and Microsoft, offers us a preview of the PC of the future. And it will come without that familiar whirring disk that has been the data heart of the PC for the past 25 years.
The Chrome OS will at first be available on all-black laptops from Samsung and Acer. And because the new platform stores everything -- files, applications, data bits and bytes, literally everything -- on online servers rather than on your home or office PC, those new PCs running it won't require gobs of storage. In fact, they won't require any storage at all.
The new Google laptops come without hard drives, in other words.

In hindsight, the PC computer was probably the BIGGEST mistake of the oligarchy. Information got loose. :-)

Imagine what they can do if most of the physical needs are replaced by the Internet. They could reduce it to one processor chip implanted at the base of your brain with a port directly into your cortex.
No one could steal your computer, and you would always have instant access via wireless connection. If someone steals you, you can be tracked.
I just don’t see what you think could go wrong with something like this.

> And what’s to stop our government from subpoenaing anything they want from any of these online backups? Think “suspicion”. Think “Janet Incompetano.”

You can encrypt the backups with a very long key.

True. But the INTERNET is not a private medium.
This can only fly on “regulated” wings.
Absolutely...NO THANKS!!
S'ok. My kids say I'm a problem now. I'm good with that.

You can still find some of his books on Amazon. But some are out of print. don’t know why.
Thats true. If we all get our applications from the web, bandwidth usage will soar.
I just replaced the HD in this laptop with a 250G, for under sixty bucks! It is SATA though.
RE: Got a 2 TB external hard drive for $89 on Black Friday sale.
Was going to say the same thing. 250GB for $89 is a complete rip off.
“Worst, you could never really delete anything from your little bit of the cloud!!!”
Search Google Cached. “Sometimes you can access the cached version from a site that otherwise require registration or a subscription.” from google.

Its a laptop drive. There is a difference ya know.
Imagine me, lightspeed in silicon, times whatever number of copies I think it would take.
My ex seemed to think it would be a problem. ;)

not necessarily. there’s a lot more to a hard drive than capacity.
“But the INTERNET is not a private medium.”
well duh
My files however are.
I'm beginning to think its more like:
Government = Google spies.
I bought a 1 gig WD 2.5 inch USB drive for $120 a couple of months ago, saw them advertised for less than $100 last week.
I’d hate to try to get to my video archive on the cloud. Not to mention keeping my confidential business info on a hard drive somewhere out there on the net with no security other than a wink and a nod from Google.
