WASHINGTON | Wed Dec 8, 2010 4:03pm EST WASHINGTON (Reuters) - New Mexico Governor Bill Richardson said on Wednesday he would travel to North Korea from December 16-20, hoping to ease mounting tensions with Pyongyang over its nuclear program and belligerence toward South Korea. "I am increasingly concerned with the recent actions by the North Koreans, which have raised tensions and are contributing to instability on the Korean Peninsula," Richardson said in a statement, saying he was going as a private citizen. "I am not carrying any messages, but I want to be helpful during this volatile period," Richardson said. "If I can contribute to the easing of tension on the peninsula, the trip will be well worth it."

Not this crap again. Was hearing rumors about this, now it looks like its going to happen. Just when I was starting to think we were heading in the right direction. Up until this point, I thought the US/ROK/Japan had done a pretty good job reacting to the latest NORK provocation. Who knows - maybe it truly is not a sanctioned trip.

I don’t mind if he goes. What bothers me more is he might come back.

So... Looks like we have a little Jimmy Carter wannabe sticking his nose in where it doesn’t belong.

He must be thinking of filling the slot for Carter when he gives up the ghost or gets committed.

MAKES plenty of sense now......

yep, he figures there is a tiny chance he will be in the right spot at the right time and grab some credit if things go his way. If it does, look for him to think about throwing his hat in the primary ring against Obama next year.

I really do hope this wasn’t sanctioned by the WH. SO FAR, State and the Pentagon have handled this crisis in a manner that I do not think was anticipated by the DPRK . . . and that’s a good thing.

I hope this isn’t a “carrot and stick” play by the WH and Richardson is the carrot.
