What a bunch of garbage!
An elderly Manhattan woman living on Social Security was slapped with a $100 ticket -- just for throwing away a newspaper in a city trash can.
Delia Gluckin, 80, tossed the paper in a bin right outside her Inwood apartment building Sunday morning, only to be ambushed by an overzealous Department of Sanitation agent wielding a citation book.
"I was walking to take the subway downtown and dropped it in a trash can, and this lady in a blue uniform ran up to me," Gluckin told The Post.
"I thought she was going to ask for directions. She said, 'You just dropped garbage in there,' " according to Gluckin.
"I said, 'I didn't, it was just a newspaper,' and I offered to take it out," said Gluckin, who had tossed her Sunday Post out.
Sanit cop Kathy Castro wrote Gluckin the summons for putting "improper refuse" in a city litter basket.

I really hate the recyclists. I have a pretty blue can somewhere under my desk. It’s never been used. My city has curbside waste of money recycling. We only use it because they charge per trash bag with stickers, but using the bin is free. But I drop “recyclables” in the regular trash whenever I get the opportunity. And I can back up the argument with facts and documents if needed.
Pallets aren’t treated - they use the crummiest wood they can find for them. Perfect for temporary projects, like stacking patio bricks, then burn after use.
Yea, I also have a problem with sorting out the recyclables.
I feel like an idiot doing it knowing that my work is just putting money into somebody elses pocket.
I used to recycle. We have curb-side recycling in my town. Then a neighbor (who is a town employee) told me that three out of every five truckloads of recycle material was ending up in the landfill with the trash.
She was also issued another ticket for not thanking the government official for ticketing her for throwing her newspaper in the trash can.
Where would we be without government like this? Really? How hard our lives would be without the nanny state.
That was what she was fined for. You would just be admitting to the 'crime'.
I’m going to guess the sanit cop-lady had a quota, and figured an old woman was less likely to beat her senseless over a ticket than some urban thug.
defining a word with the actual word... hmmm...
