At his press conference yesterday afternoon, President Obama took himself off in a little boat and went to where the Wild Things are.
Like Max, the protagonist of Maurice Sendak's illustrated book for children, he shouted "Be still!" at the Democrats who are roaring their terrible roars about his tax-cut compromise with the GOP and at the Republicans who are gnashing their terrible teeth about his refusal to make all Bush tax cuts permanent.
Max's shout, and the trick of looking his antagonists straight in the eyes, cause the Wild Things to make them his king. But that's unlikely to be the effect of Obama's press conference, which was one of the most bizarre political events of my lifetime.
Somehow, I don't think the Democrats disenchanted by his policy choices over the past couple of days are going to be in a coronating mood after Obama furiously upbraided them in ad hominem language of a kind we may never before have heard from a president.
Had he followed their counsel and refused to deal with the GOP, he said, "We [would] be able to feel good about ourselves, and sanctimonious about how pure our intentions are and how tough we are."
And the Republicans who just struck a deal with him will surely be less inclined to compromise in future negotiations if they are going to be insulted immediately afterward.

There was some point where a single question was asked, and he should have delivered a simple 60-second response...and I think it went on for four minutes. I think the reporters eventually tired of asking anything but yes/no questions.
The Republicans do not take the House until NEXT month, and Kid Kenya still has, as he will have, the Senate. Yet, the general feeling is that it is the REPUBLICANS who are calling the shots ... and worse, taking the blame ...for the Mombasa Moonbeam's failures to win votes for his agenda?
What is it about the term "lame duck" that folks have forgotten? This is STILL the Pelosi-Reid Congress.
Oh yeah? The bow-tied RINO bum-kissers of the GOP are just warming up for two sessions of "compromise."
Obama wants all the perks of office, but none of the responsibilities of office.
Never in my memory has an occupant of the Oval Office been so blatantly partisan while in office. He makes no effort whatsoever to serve as a leader of the nation. It’s always us against them, rich against poor, black against white . . .
Incoherent. Rambling. Idiotic. Paranoiac. On top of everything else, this ignorant SOB is ... clearly ...clinical. Until today, I really thought we were stuck with him until 2012.
Unless they come up with new drugs, this guy could be taken out on a medical by his own team. Imagine that. A POTUS on the "DL."
Looks to me as if the present plan might be to keep him on the road, while Team Soros manages the Oval Office. In the meantime, if they do let him speak, they need a new Teleprompter Team. Today's outing was an international economic disaster. Soros has got to be telling him to STFU.
Is it audio/video recorded somewhere?

Is there a video of this conference? I have yet to find it.
I wish I’d seen it. Alert us if you see a video! :)

Thank you.
If the Tax Rates STAYING THE SAME AS THEY HAVE BEEN FOR 10 YEARS dont lead to Growth Obama will say we CUT taxes(he Did Not),and the economy did not Improve we Need to spend more! The Republicans will look like asses as Usual.
A cut of payroll taxes was part of the deal.
Once the compromise deal passes Congress(if it passes), businesses may feel confident enough about their tax obligations for the next two years to do some hiring. Personally, I think two years is too short a time.
I would have liked for the GOP to have demonstrated a bit more patience to push for a better deal...a couple weeks remain before this congress ends.
Neutered tyrants can get a bit cranky.
It’s tough top be the King when you aren’t a King. Maybe this poor excuse of a president needs to take another vacation with his grifter family and relatives.
thanx
A cut of payroll taxes was part of the deal. When Max gets bored among the Wild Things and decides to return home, he finds dinner is waiting for him, and it's still hot. Unless the tax-cut deal causes the economy to take off, and fast, Obama is going to be feasting on cold leavings, and all by his lonesome, up in the room to which his political family may be banishing him. I suppose 2% reduction in payroll costs isn't nothing - tho I seem to recall seeing or hearing that it's in the nature of a delay rather than an outright cut in the tax liability - but in general what this deal seems to amount to is not allowing things to get worse as was scheduled by the Democrats in the deal that gave us the Bush tax cuts in the first place. So all taken in all, this deal seems a political setup for the Republicans and for Sarah Palin. The Republicans can say they did something, the Democrats will have to deal with the fact that nothing was done to improve the investment climate and cause the economy to recover, and Sarah (or whoever) can ride in on a white horse and Reagan armor and promise to actually make the business climate better. With actual tax cuts.
The new House needs to set it up by drafting tax cut legislation and passing it-—repeatedly-—and letting the Senate and/or Hussein quash it.
That should give the ‘12 candidate something extra to run on.
