General Hamid Gol Reveals US Plots to Disrupt Pakistan's N. Program

TEHRAN (FNA)- Former Director of Pakistan's Military Intelligence Organization General Hamid Gol disclosed that the US has hatched a plot to disrupt his country's nuclear program by arresting Islamabad's nuclear scientists.

"The US, on behalf of Israel, opposed Pakistan's nuclear program from the very first day and seeks to make the country's nuclear program unsteady through hatching plots," General Hamid Gol told FNA on Tuesday.

Noting that the documents released by the whistleblower site of WikiLeaks also prove that the US has always sought to impede Pakistan's nuclear program, he reiterated, "Despite the vast attempts made by the US, it can never stop Pakistan's nuclear program."

General Hamid Gol referred to Washington's plots to create a rift among the regional countries, specially through the recent release of unreal information on the relations between Iran and Pakistan, and said, "The US assumes Iran and Pakistan as its number one enemies and does not want Iran, Pakistan and Saudi Arabia to become united."

The remarks by the Pakistani figure came after some US embassy cables posted by WikiLeaks website sparked hot reactions in the region.

In one cable, the WikiLeaks claimed, Saudi Arabia's King Abdullah, a close ally of Pakistan, reportedly called Pakistani President Asif Ali Zardari the main cause of his country's woes.

Pakistani President's office responded last week that the leaks were "no more than an attempt to create misperceptions between two important and brotherly Muslim countries".

Also a former Pakistani army commander told FNA last Tuesday that the disclosure of classified documents by the whistleblower site of WikiLeaks is a US plot to create rift among friendly and neighboring states.

"The US has a hand in this plot, and these reports (posted by the WikiLeaks website) are part of the US psychological warfare," former Chief of the Staff of the Pakistani Army General Mirza Aslam Beg said.

His name is spelled Gul. He is a long time America hater, so is Beg. Gul is the father of the Taliban movement. Fars is an Iranian mouthpiece newspaper.

All we ever offered to do was secure the Pakistani nuclear fuel at a time when the Pak government was about to topple to the Islamists. In return we would guarantee non-interference from India and of course cash, lots of it.

The Pak's did agree to some security measures for their nukes and of course took the cash. BTW, after Mumbai, with the entire attack from Pakistan, with direct assistance from serving members of the Pak military involved, did India retaliate?

There is very, very little that Wikileaks has posted that has not been open source for years, this story included. All Wikileaks has done is give a lot of America haters an opportunity for trash talk.

"The US, on behalf of Israel, opposed Pakistan's nuclear program from the very first day and seeks to make the country's nuclear program unsteady through hatching plots," General Hamid Gol told FNA on Tuesday."

So, Pakistan is our "ally" in Afghanistan against Islamists?

So, Pakistan's nuclear program is purely for Pakistan's defense?

If what the Pakistan General said is generally accepted within Pakistan's political class and government, then U.S. government public positions about Pakistan are guided by myths and not reality.

Israel poses no security risk to Pakistan what so ever.

So, if Pakistan views its nuclear program as some potential threat to Israel, then it views that program more as an "Islamic" program, than a "Pakistani" program. Would such an Islamist state actually ever crush the Taliban, or help us crush the Taliban? No.

The Paki-nuke programme was always the ‘Islamic bomb’. Initial funding came from the Saudis and Libyans.

And here’s an interesting historic tidbit.

>U.S. government public positions about Pakistan are guided by myths

Especially after 911, if not about 10 years earlier, when Pappa Bush seriously considerd putting Pakistan on the Terror Sponsoring Nation list.

Prior to that since WorldWarTwo, there is no doubt that Pakistan was a strategic bastion for America(U2 flights, Stanch Anti Commies, Anti Soviet Jihad) despite sometimes straying - seconding its pilots to fly for Arab airforces against Israel.

Now our policy is pure unadulterated wishful thinking.

We are stymied. We do not know how to proceed.

HOPING that Pakistan drops it’s proxy jihadi armies is like fervently hoping for that Lotto ticket to be the one.

Although I am and remain a supporter of Israel, the link to the 2007 article makes me reconsider what I said, about Pakistan giving more “Islamic” priority than “nationalist” priority to its nuclear program, given, what seemed to me, until I read the 2007 article, its “paranoia” concerning Israel.

Apparently, that “paranoia” vis-a-vis Israel, could have as much real “Pakistan NATIONAL security” basis, as anything else.

That said, it will not change my view of Pakistan as an Islamist state with whom our foreign policy seems to have continually ignored the importance of that fact to Pakistan and the problem it is to us.

Islam is very basis of Pakistani nationalism. You can’t separate the two. If they have an Islamic bomb in which the likes of Saudi Arabia and Libya are interested, it is but obvious that Israel would have been worried.

I understand the role of Islam in the foundational motivations for the division of the sub-continent, between India and what became Pakistan.

In spite of that, I always saw its nuclear weapon program as predominately related to the “nationalistic” rivalry that continued with India, and not as an “Islamic” bomb per se.

Maybe I was naive. Maybe many U.S. foreign policy wonks still are.
