PULASKI COUNTY, Mo. (Dec. 6, 2010) — Eastern District Commissioner Bill Farnham read a news brief on his desk Monday morning from the Missouri Association of County Clerks and got mad. The cause? A news brief about Gov. Jay Nixon’s announcement that he will back legislation to require prescriptions for pseudoephedrine-based cold medicines so the medicine can’t be used as the key ingredient in methamphetamine. “Why should you have to pay $100 for a doctor visit to get $6 worth of cold medicine all because of a bunch of meth heads?” Farnham asked. “I think they ought to just shoot every meth head.”

Good question.

It’s bad enough the law abiding are inconvenienced by these drugs being placed behind the counter.

Since the first time I was REQUIRED to provide proof of ID to get Nyquil I have had the same thought in my head. Find the Meth houses, chain them up and burn them down.

This would be funny if they were not serious. My daughter is a pharmacy tech and when the druggies know the store has received a shipment of pain meds they come by the car loads to fill their prescriptions. They seem to have no problem getting scripts, or the money to pay for them. Further regulating pseudoephedrine will not stop the meth heads. It will just put a hardship on those of us who count on the drug for occasional relief from allergies and colds. For me, this is the only thing that helps my sinus headaches.

Sinus and Headache Aleve is the only thing that works for me. I hate having to stand in line and show my ID to get it from behind the counter. A couple of stores quit carrying it because it is a pain to them, too.

Sounds kind of harsh - the killing tweekers and all.

Until you realize - the tweekers are killing themselves......

The non-sense on scripts for cold medicene will do nothing, it’s imported by the ton from Mexico.

Why is it so many people don’t understand how deep and extensive the damage druggies do to our lives?

Anyone should be able to buy cold medicine without a prescription!

We can’t, because the Federal Government isn’t dealing effectively with that sector of our population abusing substances. I’m not talking about cigarettes and booze, either.

We destroy the illicit drug trade by eliminating the demand. Singapore has the right idea: execute them all!

Everything in this country has been ruined by a small group of people known as criminals. First criminals shot people, so they make stifling gun laws for everyone else, then a nut puts poison in a jar at the store and ever since all packaging is a struggle to open with seals and such. I can hardly open a jar of pickles anymore. Now cold medicine. I agree shoot ‘em all.

This is going to happen (not the shooting of meth heads.. well that may happen too), but the return of pseudoephedrine drugs to prescription only status....is just a matter of when.

Sinus and Headache Aleve is the only thing that works for me.

Same here, works quick (within 10 to 15 minutes), doesn't get you sleepy, just works.
Usually 1 pill will do it for me.
Now you can't even buy it where I live, pi$$es me off to no end because of some damn useless druggies.

Doctors know their patients. They can write the prescription at the same time they write the other ones, usually at a yearly check up. We probably buy sudaphed 2 may three times a year. They can certainly write the scrip for 3 purchases within a year. Doesn’t seem like a catastrophe to me.

Meth heads and rabid dogs=same solution. They stopped being human the first time they tried meth.I also believe you should be able to shoot any bastard that gives drugs to children with no penalty. The most evil sumbitch second only to obama.

My doctor moved out of state. I don't currently have a replacement, and while I should probably get one, should I be required to just to cure a sinus headache? This is the kind of ridiculous government regulation that drives up the cost of medical care.

Except that in most states there is a time limit on how long a prescription can be held before being filled... usually 6 months for a typical maintenance drug (non-antibiotic, etc.).

I’ve been saying all drug dealers should be executed for a long time. Give them a fair trial then hang them. Marijuana dealers... 10 years exile. Meth pushers? Waste ‘em.

Most meth comes from Mexico these days so local sudafed restrictions don’t help so much
