I loved Dandy Don on Monday Night Football; he was perfect at deflating the ignorant blowhard Howard Cosell. On a Monday night after a Korean boxer was killed in a boxing match, the home team came up short on a 3rd down within field goal range; the team promptly sent out the placekicker while the fans were screaming for the team to go for it. Cosell launched into a diatribe about “bloodthirsty fans” and all they want is “blood blood blood” and “that’s what leads to dead boxers in the ring.”
At the end of the rant Don just said: “Oh come on Howard; we’re just talking about a first down.”
way way way too young. 72 years old is middle age now adays. Seriously, prayers to his family.
