For Federal Employees, a Feeling of Being Targets in the Budget Wars
New York Times ^ | December 5, 2010 | Ashley Parker

WASHINGTON — Iyauta Moore may be many things — a single mother raised by a single mother in the South Bronx, a 34-year-old woman with a master’s degree in public administration from American University, a top-level government employee who makes a little over $100,000 a year — but she bristles at the notion that she is just another overpaid, underworked, cosseted bureaucrat.

“What I do here involves creating something that doesn’t exist,” she said of her job at the Department of Education, where she is establishing a group to help oversee all of the department’s grants. “That’s not pushing paper.”

Ms. Moore, who is a member of the American Federation of Government Employees, added: “We’re out and we’re making a difference in the community. And I don’t really think you can put a dollar figure on that.”

But as politicians intent on cutting the federal budget try to do just that, career government employees are feeling besieged.

It is simple to me. Gut and defund the Department of Stupification and don’t stop there until every federal agency is slashed to the bone and all the worthless parasites are thrown into the unemployment lines. And, yeah, call me a heartless SOB but that is the way I see it and any politician I vote for knows my position. This would be a simple major step in reducing the deficit. There would be few federal employees in my idea of a perfect USA. They produce nothing.

Put me down as one of the Freepers who deosen't believe "creating a government program " is such a great thing.

As far as I am concerned, she IS just another paper-pusher AND overpaid AND an example of what is wrong with America.

A 10% pay cut for federal employees would be a start, followed by a hiring freeze ,and closure of the Department of Education and EPA.

“I don’t mind if we keep paying these parasites, though, because ultimately it will lead to the “Great Correction” that will greatly thin the herd and pave the way to a brighter future for my kids and grandkids. “

No it won’t. Ultimately it could lead to someone like Hugo Chavez.

By the way, every federal employee we put on unemployment would create several jobs and make the dollar worth much more according to Pelosi. So let’s do us all a big favor and grow the hell out of the economy by slashing federal jobs and doing away with most federal agencies.

If we got rid of all the bad/useless programs, got rid of the unions and instituted pay for performance, we would be more incline to appreciate the remaining employees.

Every FEDGOV job is a job kidnapped from the private sector, while two other jobs were killed to get the one job kidnapped.

Every FEDGOV dollar spent is five dollars stolen from the private sector.

Folks like a Poundstone are mortal enemies to American values and the legacy of Liberty passed down to us from out forefathers.

Considering there is no Constitutional authority for the Department of Education to exist, this is a curious article to cite to make your case.

Education is a local concern. Period.
