With the cold attitudes being posted here, I’m regretting posting it. This was a young man, one of the men who this forum expresses admiration for, who volunteered to put his life on the line for his country, who was killed by a hit and run driver and there are jokes about the SUV and blathering about how it was his fault for being on a bike at 2 am. I don’t remember reading in the article where it said he was drunk or that he was riding down the middle of the street or that the police have found yet that it was his fault in any way.

Yes, I agree with you. I took my daughter to the ER at 3 a.m. the other night. I know nurses who work crazy shifts from 2 p.m. to 2 a.m. My ex is a surgeon who’d be out driving to the Children’s hospital for emergenices in the middle of the night. There are legitmate reasons to be out.

I don’t know what this guy was doing, or what the driver who hit him was up to. But, any loss of life is sad. I spent 6 years as a critical care nurse in several Level 1 trauma centers. People do stupid stuff & get themselves killed but it’s still awful for families & those who are left behind.

Don’t regret posting this. There are those of us out here who are saddened by this horrible accident and our hearts go out to the family of this young man. I thank him for his service to our country and will say extra prayers for him and his grieving family.
The perp who hit him and ran will be caught and I hope they throw the book at this scum. To hit someone and leave...well, it means he was probably running for a reason.
Nonetheless...the hero who was killed is now at peace. He IS the winner while the other will be hunted down and punished.

I'm dismayed by some of the posts on this thread.

This story is very sad. Who knows why this young man was out riding his bike? Maybe he is still trying to cope with having been at war, and was unable to sleep. Maybe he recently found out that a loved one is ill. Who knows?
