A Rineyville man died Wednesday from a gunshot wound received during what police describe as an attempted invasion of a Sun & Fun mobile home park residence Tuesday night.
Kentucky State Police at Elizabethtowns Post 4 say 18-year-old Kevin Scott Puckett was crawling through a window at the home of Loretta Hawkins at 180 Tomahawk Trail. Hawkins fired a handgun at Puckett at about 7 p.m. Tuesday.
According to Trooper Bruce Reeves, spokesman for KSP Post 4, Puckett was involved in an ongoing dispute with Hawkins adult son, who was inside the home when the attempted break-in and subsequent shooting occurred. Reeves said Puckett was apparently beating on cars and the trailer and making threats outside the home, before he broke a kitchen window and tried to enter the home. From the scene, Puckett was taken to University Hospital in Louisville where he died early Wednesday.
KSP Post 4 detective Jason Propes is investigating the shooting and home invasion, but Reeves said he doesnt expect any charges to be filed against Hawkins. It looks pretty cut and dried as far as it being self defense, Reeves said.
Results of Propes investigation could be reviewed by Commonwealths Attorney Chris Shaw who must decide whether to present the case to a grand jury. Jail records show Puckett was charged with resisting arrest and disorderly conduct earlier this year.
I guess it’s safe to say that photo of Puckett during healthier days wasn’t taken at the DMV.
Kevin Scott Puckett has definitely turned his life around now. He is on the straight and narrow, and will never do no more bad stuff.
