Reagan had a lot of accomplishments before he ran for Governor and he served TWO FULL terms. You’re embarrassing yourself, please. Palin isn’t in Reagan’s league. Not by a long shot.

You state selected generalizations sprinkled in with some facts, confuse the timeline, tortuously twist the interpretation, and come up with an unsubstantiated opinion.

If I’m “embarassing” myself, you justr pissed all over yourself in front of the entire Free Republic community.

Go change your underwear.

I think the point of EyeGuy’s post was that Reagan was an actor in 1957. He later paid his dues over the next 23 years by taking a position of responsibility as governor, doing it well, and helping to build the party and get candidates elected.

1957 is the Bedtime for Bonzo age for Reagan. In today’s terms, that would equate to being a celebrity on a reality show.

RR was not elected to Govenor till 1967 when he was 56 years old. Palin was elected Govenor when she was 44 years old. So one can reasonably argue that Palin made the same acheivement in 10 years less time.

My point is about comparisons is that if you are going to compare acomplishments and “leagues”, compare fairly allowing an equal number of years. If we make that comparison, consider this:

Reagan began his political career as a liberal Democrat, admirer of Franklin D. Roosevelt, and active supporter of New Deal policies, but in the early 1950s he shifted to the right and endorsed the presidential candidacies of Dwight D. Eisenhower in 1952 and 1956 as well as Richard Nixon in 1960 while remaining a Democrat.

So at about the same age, Regan was still a Democrat. His first endorcements of Republican candidates for President came at ages 41 and 45. He did not reveal his advocation of a smaller government solution until his famous speach in Oct of 1964 - when he was 53 years old.

RR was a great man but he aged into his greatness. Palin has learned her leasons at a far earlier age.

Reagan might have finished his two terms, but then nobody was trying to put him into personal bankruptcy with false corruption charges.

The odds are that had Sarah Palin stayed in as Gov, she'd be bankrupt and not visible on the political stage. But that appears to be what many here would prefer.

Actually? What were his accomplishments before he became governor - making movies?

Yeah, he was an able negotiator for the union he belonged to, and impressed people. But does he actually have a signature accomplishment while governor? In only a couple of years, Palin did something.

I'm not sure what Reagan would have done if he had been attacked by his political enemies, the way she was, when he was our Gov. They filed hundreds of bogus "ethics violations" against her that demanded hundreds of staff hours to answer and provide documents for. They left affectively shut down her ability to govern the state.

I don't think that has ever happened before and I don't blame her for ending the bleeding to save the governorship and state from complete paralysis.
