Not too many Barns full of rats in Suburbia.
Feral Cats around here put a big hit on birds.
I had to move my bird feeder inside the back fence with the dogs. Neighborhood cats were targeting the birds before I moved it.

We have a big problem with feral cats in our area. There was a cat with no tail in the neighborhood within 6 months there was any number of long tail, short tail, and no tail kittens. Great for a lesson in genetics and punnett squares.
Unfortunately several of the feral cats have been found to have rabies. One of my students was attacked by a feral cat and he had to go through the rabies shots just in case.

I did the same with the bird feeder, thinking that the birds would be safer around the dogs than the cats. Then one day I saw Petey, the Jack Russel/Border Collie mix leap and catch a mockingbird in mid-flight. It never saw him coming.

We were fifty miles offshore when the bird landed on the boat - a nearly fatal mistake
