Chris Dodd bids farewell to Senate
By: Shira Toeplitz November 30, 2010 06:27 PM EST
In his final speech on the Senate floor, Connecticut Sen. Chris Dodd urged his colleagues to work together in a bipartisan fashion and not change the filibuster rules that have guided their chamber.
The time of my departure has come, said Dodd, who is Catholic, quoting Saint Paul. Ive fought a good fight I kept the faith.
Dodds final words on the floor mark the end of a three-decade career in the Senate for the Connecticut Democrat, who announced in January that he would not run for a sixth term. The press gallery was packed as many of the Senators colleagues listened to his speech on the floor.
Minority Leader Mitch McConnells voice quivered when he said hed bid adieu to Dodd whose speech he called one of the most important speeches in the history of the Senate.
At the age of 66, Dodd had spent more than half of his life in Congress. In his speech, Dodd warmly recalled he sat in the same desk occupied by his father, former Sen. Thomas J. Dodd, for the past 12 years.
Dodd said that while some might feel the need to change the Senate rules on the filibuster, he argued it would not help the partisan gridlock in what is supposed to be a deliberative legislative body.
Now, in my years here, Ive learned that the appreciation of the Senates role in our national debate is an acquired taste, said Dodd. Therefore, to my fellow senators who have never served a day in the minority, I urge you to pause in your enthusiasm to change Senate rules.

Yeah, right, Dodd.
You’re Saint Paul like I’m Saint Peter.
Worthless phony malevolent piece of S...chumer, you are.
But how many other things has this chump destroyed? I am sure the Apostle Paul would turn over in his grave if he knew Chris Dodd was quoting him.
How many times did this “Catholic” vote for abortion?
Right you kept the faith Chris. You still believe in waitress sandwiches even if Teddy is in hell awaiting your arrival.
Dodd is a disgusting slimeball. He is also no Catholic, no matter what the definition.
Pro-abortion, pro-homosexual agenda, tax and spend liberal, etc., etc.
Good riddance to bad rubbish and too bad it took this long to be rid of his incipient blather in the US Senate.
The bastard should be going to jail.
I’m sorry I missed it.
Oh, wait a minute...
I’m not sorry I missed it.
The TSA better check him. I imagine he has a lot of our tax money going with him illegally.
One of the few people personally responsible for the sub-prime crisis. May he rot in hell.
Waitresses everywhere cheer.
good riddance.
Don't let the door hit ya where the good Lord split ya.
Flush twice it’s a big one.
Frank and Dodd should be frogmarched right up Wall street in orange jumpsuits.
WTF? It's one thing to be gracious - it's another to be a complete fool.
