To buy certain cold medicines in Missouri, people already must approach a pharmacy counter, show a photo ID and submit their personal information to an electronic database to make sure they haven't stockpiled more than the legal limit of pills.
On Tuesday, Missouri Gov. Jay Nixon Attorney and General Chris Koster proposed to make Missouri the third state in the U.S. to require a doctor's prescription to buy decongestants such as Sudafed, Claritin-D and Aleve Cold & Sinus. Their target is pseudoephedrine a key ingredient both in cold medications and the illegal stimulant methamphetamine.

If you need a prescription, doesn’t your insurance company have to pay for the med?
No doctors due to Obamacare? Sure you can have some sudafed after your doctor appointment that is scheduled in three weeks.
Ridiculous!
The meth cookers are getting their pseudoephedrine in bulk from Mexico... via UPS!
Do the gooberment dumbasses realize how many boxes of sudafed you’d need to cook meth?

“Do the gooberment dumbasses realize how many boxes of sudafed youd need to cook meth?”
It’s the old we’re doing something. Nothing will work as well, but this looks better since it causes the general public inconvenience.
I’m getting pretty sick of the jack-boot thugs demanding more and more control of our lives. We already have to show ID and have our info databased just to buy some cold medicine. The pseudophed replacement they sell now just plain doesnt do jack when my sinuses get messed up.
The invasive restrictions alread in place haven’t done Jack to stop the meth-makers. But it sure has caused me and many others to suffer needlessly with sinus congestion.
I just don’t see thus any different than the invasive TSA AND THEIR POWER-trip tactics. No benefit, but lots of pain for us law-abiding citizens.

I have sinus problems- have for my whole life.
I could buy 60 mg Sudafed years ago, as well as 30 mg Sudafed. ^0 mg were off white- 30 mg are red.
Now- the red pills are down to 10 mg & I have to take 3 to get the same results—& I am forbidden to buy enough to match the amount I needed. I have to get 3 pills to match the 30 mg, and the count of pills is what they are tracing.
The druggies are using paint- other inhalents & are causing people like me to be viewed as criminals when I try to buy Sudafed!!!!
Just great!!!
It wouldn’t matter how many boxes of the brand Sudafed you tried. There is no longer ANY pseudoephedrine in Sudafed, nor is there any in the generic of Sudafed, over the counter or otherwise. This has to be directed at the OTC “stay awake” crap they put out on counters at truck stops.
The ‘controlled’ OTC market requires a customer to tear off a sheet on the aisle and take it to the pharmacy counter to request a legally limited quantity as it is. Meth labs get their pseudoephedrine from over the border down Mexico way.
So, you’re saying a person can buy pseudoephedrine from mexico? In bulk?
Sure they do. They also know that nude, databased airport scanners don't stop bombs, either.
What do you think this is really about?
I got a head cold Saturday. The new stuff didn’t do me a bit of good. The next day the wife went out shopping and stopped at 2 pharmacies to get it. Both were sold out.

The DEA is aware of how, in bulk the stuff gets here. Generic houses off ship through Mex. to re-labelers for OTC market.

Your statement is truer than you think.
This whole meth problem would go away if they wanted it to.
When pseudoephedrine was developed, there was 2 patents, filed, one for a molecule with a right hand rotation and one with a left hand rotation, i.e., mirror images. Both worked equally well as decongestants, with identical symptom relief. Now the zinger, it was found that the equipment for manufaturing the one could also produce methamphetimines with minor adjustments to the process. The other mirror image molecule was unsuitable for this process and it was decided that only the one we know as pheudoephedrine would be made, because the process could be dual purposed. If they really wanted to stop the proliferation of meth labs, they’d simply switch to the mirror image molecule that can’t be turned into meth.
Not so my friend. They bust up shake and bake labs here every week. How do they find them? They follow the paper trail people leave. Then they just roll up to the next level.
That crap is bad news.
I am not a tweaker!
LOL! I know, I just wanted to know if people were paying attention. Although, with Nixon’s war on drugs if he WOULD support this. What is it with “Nixons”?
