What difference does it make what religion the pedophile was?

The Civil Justice System of India is based on secular principles of jurisprudence and is not some Hindu theological bastion.

No, didn't mean to say it was based on a theological bias, but on a human bias. The bias to treat people we perceive as "more like us" a bit better than people who are other than us.

I'm more than a bit comforted by James C. Bennett's post of the resolution of a similar case of sodomy, pedophilia and murder.

I also fully agree with GeronL's take. (Although I do admire the Indian's 10 years hard time and fine, nice touch!)
