A “Beta-cell” the size of a small suitcase could be used to power an electric car for several years before needing replaced.

I hope you didn't buy stock in this.

A defacto growth in the Government Automobile Directorate, since Uncle Sugar still own some 60% of the company. And let’s wait to see what that IPO does once the much daunted Volt finally goes on sale...

I see 1000 layoffs in February...

After the UAW gets their piece of this pie, when will the next US taxpayer bailout start? Or, when will the “corporate welfare” - so hated by the left - end for GM.

Any beta-emitter hot enough to power something significant like a vehicle would NOT be allowed to be released to public use. You’re talking about something that would be REALLY dangerous if the vessel containing it was ever breached. It would take a lot more than a couple beta-emitting atoms to make enough current to power anything.

Not gonna work.

I would at least consider a good electric vehicle from a reputable company. That does not include GM, of course. If GM develops technology that is worthwhile and then licenses it to Ford or Honda, I will not buy the resulting products from those companies. My lifetime promise to boycott GM extends to products of other companies that result in royalties to Government Motors or any associated criminal enterprise. GM is dead to me, and the only way they will get any of my money is through my tax dollars. Sadly, that probably means they’ll be ripping me off at least a few more times.

“We taxpayers now have the honor to pay the incentive rebate of $7,500 - $10,000 per car...”

We will probably end up paying for electric bill rebates.

For that matter, the whole fiasco, including the jobs that are created, is nothing but a welfare program.

I'll bid two cents.

Tax, title, registration & delivery fee - $30,000.

"A “Beta-cell” the size of a small suitcase could be used to power an electric car for several years before needing replaced."

There's a better chance it could need to be replaced every 6 months.

"lower your electricity bill"

Unfortunately I heard the same tactic when I built my first house. We paid extra for the Georgia Power Good Cents package -- energy efficient windows, doors, and extra insulation. It seemed like a great thing for a couple of years -- then when the investors started complaining, there were drastic rate increases to make up for less usage.

Consumers just cannot stay ahead of the game, and that's just what it is.

Really, you are likening the Volt to a Pacer??? The anti-American car rants on FR NEVER ceases to amaze me.
