WASHINGTON -- The Senate has rejected a GOP bid to ban the practice of larding spending bills with earmarks -- those pet projects that lawmakers love to send home to their states.
Democrats and a handful of Republicans combined to defeat the effort, which would have effectively forbidden the Senate from considering legislation containing earmarks like road and bridge projects, community development funding, grants to local police departments and special-interest tax breaks.

Hopefully the incoming House will just strike all the earmarks out of the bill. But I’m not holding my breath, that’s for sure.
Or Nightmark?
Just a little more than a month an Ohio will be finally rid of this piece of debris. GO AWAY ALREADY!
What a surprise ...
Several thing politicians cannot ever be expected to pass:
Term Limits.
A retirement plan that is the same as citizens.
Health care benefits that are the same as citizens.
Living by the same rules and laws that citizens live under.
Not larding up bills with vote buying earmarks.
Earmare = Exploding Head Syndrome?
Thanks for the list. Pretty much the usual group of traitors.
As Rand Paul explained, the real evil of earmarks is not so much the relatively small amount that they add to the federal budget deficit, but the fact that earmarks are the currency that Senators and Congresspersons use to buy each others votes with.
Lisa has only 2 things to sell
Tax breaks to ‘favored’ constituents (but not us regular Joes/Janes)
and PORK for her buddies - Unions, Native Corps and the big oil that is still in AK.
If you think about it - the House and Senate only have “power” because they can ladle these things out. Why do you think the tax code is measured in feet and not pages?
I wouldn’t worry about it. When the GOP-led House adopts an earmark ban next year, the Senate will have to go along. And other changes are on the way.
They bundle the crap with critical budget items. Then dare the Pubbies to shut down the government. Newt.
If the Republicans can’t even get that done, GOD HELP US.
Lease-a-murkowski as usual.
She also voted for S510
Maybe Three
Why do the R senators allow anything they know they will lose to go to the floor for a vote??? Doesn’t it take 60 votes for cloture? We have 42, with Kirk, don’t we?
ROTFLMAO
Thanks for the laff...
RINO HUNT- 2012. Let's find a conservative and get rid of this baggage. Then finally the RINO wing of the Texas GOP will figure it out.
