John Conyers III, the son of U.S. Rep. John Conyers, says laptop computers and concert tickets were stolen from a government-registered vehicle last Wednesday in downtown Detroit, according to a police report obtained by Fox 2.
The Congressman's son told police he parked the 2010 Cadillac Escalade at Brush Street and Congress around 11:30 p.m. When he returned an hour later, he noticed scratches on the side door and said two Apple MacBooks and $27,000 in Fillmore concert tickets had been swiped.
The police report raises a number of questions. None more concerning than this: Why was the son of a Congressman driving a government vehicle?
Fox 2 reports the Escalade was registered to Conyers' 14th Congressional District, where a spokeswoman for the office is preparing a response.
Former Rep. Joe Knollenberg, an Oakland County Republican who lost his seat in 2008, told the television station family use of a government vehicle is unusual.
"I don't know of a single person in congress in the 16 years I was there who had to put vehicle titles in the name of the government," he said.
"I would tell you that they better use this (vehicle) just for the purpose of what they had been required to do. Not to get into the hands of a relative or a friend or whatever."
John Conyers III turned 20 this summer and apparently celebrated with a bottle of Moet champagne, which he showed off behind the wheel of a stationary Cadillac. It's unclear whether it was the same vehicle. Or whether his "dad is a player." Or just reads Playboy for the articles.
There are a lot of Escalades in Detroit. It’s a status thing — own a crappy house but drive a newer Cadillac. They’re also frequently stolen and stripped, and recently it was found there’s a big flaw in the steering column locking system that lets thieves *push* it down the street for stripping.
A thousand tickets. My, someone has a lot of friends on facebook...or they are scalping them.
Something like this makes it almost impossible to hold back some racially biased commentary. So, I will just leave it at this, until this country wakes up to the complete nonsense of having racial styled caucauses in our government, affirmative action crap, minority scholorships, dream acts and the like, it is going to continue to elicit a backlash bias from those who believe such practives are devisivie and are taking this country down.

His constituency will continue to vote him in because of his race. They will always re-elect a crook, because he's their crook, and they would do the same if given the chance. They laugh about it and say they are all crooks.

Here in SC, Alvin Green got 300k votes, and there was a very qualified democrat white candidate whom Alvin Green beat in the primary.
The current administration/justice dept. will never prosecute this.

When I had a company car, I had to report personal mileage each year and declare it as income on my W2. They were never luxury vehicles and any extra you wanted beyond A/C and power steering/auto transmission, you had to pay for yourself.

Ordinary members of Congress only get government paid for hybrids to give to their kids.

Detroit— Democratic Congressman John Conyers says he’s learned his son inappropriately used a government vehicle in Detroit and plans to reimburse the Treasury for any non-official use.
The House Judiciary Committee chairman says in a statement today the vehicle was used during the Thanksgiving holiday. The 81-year-old congressman apologized and says he’ll make sure it won’t happen again.

Detroit News is also reporting, the son was ticketed in September while driving the gov. SUV.
