When aides to Rahm Emanuel recently wheeled a cart loaded with tall stacks of his nominating petitions into the city election boards downtown offices, the more than 90,000 voter signatures were a show of force meant to prove deep grass-roots support across the city for the former White House chief of staff.
In reality, his petition drive had received even greater support from many campaign workers who live far beyond the city limits, according to documents filed last week with elections authorities.
The Chicago News Cooperatives review of all of the nearly 5,300 petitions for the Emanuel campaign found that a man from Mundelein, which is almost 40 miles from City Hall, circulated more signature pages than any other supporter. The analysis found that 4 of Mr. Emanuels top 6 circulators and 7 of his 20 busiest operatives wrote in home addresses for themselves outside Chicago at the bottom of the sworn affidavits that they had asked Chicago voters to sign.
Almost 25 percent of the petition pages for Mr. Emanuel were circulated by campaign workers who do not live in Chicago, the analysis found.

The whole mayoral election in Chicago is a lose-lose proposition.
Who will run Chiago - Emanuel, Meeks, Burke, the Mob or the same Machine that’s run it since Michael C. McDonald founded the Chicago Democratic Machine in the 1870s?
I vote for McDonald’s Machine. They’ve run things in Chicago for 140 years, what’s another election to them?
Here's the critical piece:
Carol Moseley Braun, the former United States senator, claimed more signatures than any other mayoral contender. Her campaign manager, Mike Noonan, said the campaign relied greatly on paid workers to supplement volunteers.
Ms. Brauns petitions were circulated mostly by supporters from the South and West Sides, with relatively few from outside the city. Our work force came from a lot of people who are out looking for jobs in this bad economy, Mr. Noonan said.
Who's paying for Braun's people? Who has a vested interest in a wounded black candidate that no white or Hispanic will support?
/bingo
And it’s no surprise that it’s made up of Demwits, they are the party of the single party state.
Mike Noonan used to work closely with Illinois House Speaker Michael J. Madigan and his stepdaughter, Illinois Attorney General Lisa M. Madigan.
My guess is that Braun is a stalking horse.
I’m in Chicago, so I know that it’s not a single-party state, anymore. This month, Illinois elected a Republican to the U.S. Senate for the first time in 12 years. Starting in Jan., the majority of U.S. reps., from Illinois, will be Republicans. Republicans gained seats in the state senate and state house.
Very Interesting. There’s so much booty to be had it’s hard to track which pirate’s in the game. Thanks and please do keep me posted.
