Overdosing on Reality’s Bitter Pills by Norma Zager

“It is better to light one small candle than to curse the darkness …” Eleanor Roosevelt

At a certain age the awareness of one’s own mortality arises like a whale from the sea spouting reality like a blowhole onto everything surrounding our existence.

As the year ends, it has become sadly apparent to me that all the words, Postcards and desperate attempts at communication have as yet gone unheeded: Insanity still reigns supreme around the globe.

It is indeed a sad fact that we enter yet another year faced with a murderous enemy and a world rife with crazy killers and religious fanatics hell bent on the destruction of those who will not accept their evil doctrines.

Despite an election that sent a resounding message to the politicians that “we are not happy with your blundering and over the top spending and craziness” they continue to ignore the will of the people and proceed down a path of selfish agendas.

Our borders remain open and welcoming to murderers who refuse to give up their stronghold on American drug money and are hurting not only the American people who live by our borders, but also those who are desperately trying to escape a ravished and brutal country and come here for a better life for their families.

Now, 62 years after acceptance into the world community, Israel is still the target of an enemy that gathers more followers by the minute, who has learned to beat the Jewish people at their own game. Her enemies are winning a public relations war fraught with lies, half-truths and evil design.

Even 65 years later the Nazis are stronger and closer to victory than ever before. Certain of a victory close within their grasp: the demise of the Jewish people. Had Hitler seen how grandly his Arab comrades would carry his torch into the future, perhaps he would not have so quickly put a bullet through his head, but lived on to witness his glorious victory into the next century.

With the New Year approaching I still see a country divided, ridiculously high numbers of the unemployed, which are shaved down against the true figures to delude the population.

I see egregious environmental disasters perpetrated, killing innocent sea life and who knows what damage ultimately to the food supply.

Pirates continue to slither about in the world’s seas unhampered in their murderous intent.

Children are still starving and being murdered in Darfur and elsewhere.

The United Nations is still a corrupt and despicable waste of American money.

Women continue to be killed by crazy Mullahs and oppressive regimes that are then rewarded with a seat at the table of human rights overseers. I do not even posses the vocabulary to express my outrage at this development.

Politicians continue to lie, cheat and steal and nauseate us with their rhetoric.

Insane dictators continue to exploit violence as a way to get the world to pay their bills and feed their people.

China owns the world and we are rebuilding their nation instead of feeding and providing jobs for our own people.

Iran will soon have a nuclear arsenal and use it against Israel to fulfill their dreams of Armageddon and a new world order.

If I go on I will spend the day depressed and unhappy, so I will cease riding this train of despair any longer.

The real question that must be answered is what can be done? Can we afford to go through yet another year with these frightening problems escalating ever further? How much more dangerous a journey toward the edge of the cliff are we willing to tread? When will that rock break off from beneath our feet and send us crashing head first down the precipice into certain hell?

Depressed yet?

You oughta be!

Although most who know me, and my readers as well, would certainly find it impossible to believe, I am simply at a loss for words.

Yes, shocking as that statement may be to most, I can think of nothing further to say. It is apparent the words of so many of us who attempt to stand up against the plethora of injustices in the world have accomplished nothing yet. Evil still runs rampant through the world.

How many minds have been changed by all the words and clever phrases of so many is impossible to say for I can only judge by the results.

So far evil is winning. It continues to flourish, so what are the options for the good and decent people of the world who seek to turn the tide?

Aha, that’s the point. A tide is an unstoppable force of nature. It would be impossible to stop the ocean from its ebb and flow when controlled by the forces of the moon. At the end of the day perhaps it is the same for humanity. An ebb and flow dependent on planetary forces too great to stem or hinder.

Too bad God did not provide man with a spirit to battle against the very powers that seek to destroy us and leave us powerless.

Ah, but, yes he did, and that’s exactly the point after all.

The indomitable spirit of man is above and beyond all else a force of nature. Nothing can reach higher, no missile, rocket or spy satellite can achieve the heights which man can attain when the spirit wills.

Perhaps as we go forward into a new year our words have not moved the mountains we desired, have not created the change we hoped for or ended the scourges against humanity we sought.

What shall we do? Give up and leave our world and our destinies to the evil among us? Fold our tents and slink quietly into the night to hide from Satan’s armies?

As tempting as that may be when confronted with the seemingly insurmountable obstacles we face, that’s not man’s course to follow. Beaten, discouraged and bruised from battle, we will enter the New Year with a stronger voice to battle evil and set the world right.

To quote an old proverb, “the spirit of man is the candle of the Lord.” May the light from that candle of goodness and strength shine on us all in the coming days and battles ahead.

I don’t see the point. Why bother doing anything? You try to do good and it ends up being pointless or you make a mistake which causes it to get worse. It is not even possible to simply get through the long years of this meaningless existence. The easy tasks are already taken up by lazy people. So you are left with a terrible battle, shame, and certain impending defeat. If some evil spirit wanted to curse someone it couldn’t do it better than this. Abandon all hope, all love, and all passion. No God is coming to save us. Everything is already lost.

A far better decision is to give up and choose suicide. It just needs to be done carefully and at the right time so that no one may interfere with the plan. That is the most difficult part. People hesitate to make this choice because of how it may affect the survivors but what does it matter? They are also doomed. The choice seems so simple.

Not sure when I’ll do it but it has to be done soon.

how I hope and pray with all my Spirit that you come to really know that the Lord God IS God... and cannot be destroyed by any weapons... HE has won... WE are winners for eternity.

try and get past today... and then do it again tomorrow. Your heart sounds hungry to me.... prey for the Hound of Heaven who is ever here... and it only took me 40 plus years to learn that :( :).
The Hound of Heaven
by
Francis Thompson (1859-1907)
I fled Him, down the nights and down the days;
I fled Him, down the arches of the years;
I fled Him, down the labyrinthine ways
Of my own mind; and in the mist of tears
I hid from Him, and under running laughter.
Up vistaed hopes I sped;
And shot, precipitated,
Adown Titanic glooms of chasmed fears,
From those strong Feet that followed, followed after.
But with unhurrying chase,
And unperturbèd pace,
Deliberate speed, majestic instancy,
They beat—and a Voice beat
More instant than the Feet—
“All things betray thee, who betrayest Me.”
