Rendell vetoes gun bill and two others

Gov. Rendell on Saturday vetoed three bills, including a controversial measure that would have expanded a person's right to use lethal force.
Rendell said an expansion of the so-called "Castle Doctrine," would have "threatened not enhanced the public safety of Pennsylvania citizens." The law already protects residents' right to defend themselves in their homes, and the bill would have extended that right to virtually anywhere a person encountered a perceived threat.
"The bill as passed encourages the use of deadly force, even when safe retreat is available, and advances a 'shoot first, ask questions later' mentality," Rendell said in a statement issued Saturday afternoon. "I do not believe that in a civilized society we should encourage violent and deadly confrontation when the victim can safely protect themselves."

I can honestly say, you would need to be a cultural anthropologist to understand “civilization in Philadelphia”.
I say this because I worked and lived in this hell hole for 35 years.
Here is a good example. With this FLA loophole BS.
There is a councilmen here who for the third time is trying to write gun laws. He stands in front of the cameras, says to anyone who is watching, yes i know its illegal for me to write gun laws, and they have to be written at the state level. His constituents who are paying him hear this, hear how he is wasting his time and their money, yet he still has his job.
Next step is we start from scratch in 2011. Just like we did in 2009, 2007, and 2005. We have a friendly house and gov now, but we still have questionable repubs in the senate that could give us grief.
PA just elected a new GOP governor, correct?
Who didn’t see this coming, but expect to pass next year.
The bill will have to be introduced next year.
I think this should be re-introduced as HB1 on the first day of the new Assembly. It should get passed and be sitting on Tom’s desk so he can sign it the day he takes office. A slap in the fact to Rendell.
My fathers attorney told me forty years ago to always keep two weapons loaded, not necessarily hot loaded, round in the chamber, but loaded in my home because this makes a “safe retreat” impossible.
You cannot retreat from your home knowing there is a loaded shotgun available to the intruder.
Excellent advice.

Not talking about today. Most states did not have Castle Law forty years ago.
